4800+ to E6300

It probably wouldn't be worth it b/c you have to upgrade ur mb and ram as well. I assume it's a gaming / light video editing machine. O/C'd the 6300 will beat it but I don't think it would make a significant change to an OC'd 4800+.

Well I did change my Mobo to a 680i and 2gig of high performance ram. I don't have my x2 4800 O'c.

why are you considering upgrading? Are you experiencing bad performance?

overall, I'm not sure the leap to a 6300 makes sense with a 4800 x2.

I've just done what you are going to do, from a X2 4800+, on DFI board. Wasn't happy with the system, mem problems I think. Would freeze up at least once a day.
Fleebayed the lot including graphic cards.
Now running the sig set up and couldn't be happier.;)

I considered upgrading from a 3500+ to an E6400, but in order to do so I would've had to

* Get a new motherboard
* Get DDR2-RAM

Looking at the benchmarks, and the fact that I hardly game, the best solution for me was to just upgrade to X2. Couldn't be happier with my 4600+. I'm an amateur video editor now, and I'll happily upgrade my entire system whole system when an affordable quad core comes around.

In the meantime, my souped up eMachines will do just fine.

Comparing a non-OC X2-4800 to a non-OC 6300 you're not going to see much real world difference. The 6300 will OC much higher but you're still spending a lot for a small upgrade. If your 4800 is running smoothly, I would at least wait till Q2 price drops or even some new cores released. RAM and CPU prices are both gonna be cheaper in 2 months so why rush it unless your 4800 is screwing up?
