480 doesn't support freesync yet? What!!??

So, I have been giving myself headaches for a few weeks trying to get freesync working on my HP ENVY 32 (new one with freesync) and my 480.

I finally checked the AMD support forums and discovered that the 480 isn't on the freesync support list yet. Huh?!!? So, I checked the AMD website and that is correct:

Graphics Cards

Some have been able to turn it on but get weird screen flickering.

I want to support AMD but Grrrrrr.............
 
FreeSync is one of the noted features on the product page at amd.com (under "Gamer Optimized"), so it should be supported. They may not have updated that page since the release.
Edit: To narrow down the problem, it'd help to know what you've tried so far. You've already installed the FreeSync driver mentioned on the page you were talking about, right? Do you have one monitor, or multiple?

I have the same monitor and 480 and enable FS fine. Make sure monitor is set to gaming mode(Menu->Color Control->Quick View) to enable FS on monitor side. When you change to gaming mode the monitor will show huge "AMD Freesync On" on top left corner of screen. I use a custom inf to get FS range to 34-70 and definitely works based on Freesync windmill demo (games (Overwatch, Project Cars) look smooth too).

Gaming mode and displayport 1.2 is selected. I am using the displayport cable that came with the monitor. I still don't have Freesync as an option. Any other ideas?
 
I'm using 16.7.2 drivers and have the monitor inf installed (Windows 10). Also do you see the "AMD Freesync On\Off" message when you change Quick View color option?

I have Hp monitor driver from the HP disc installed. I have installed the most recent drivers three timed. still no message and drivers say monitor doesnt support freesync. and yes it is the freesync version of the monitor. manufacture date dec 2015 and purchased directly from HP.com

Might have to talk with HP but my chat session kept getting disconnected.
 
My monitor firmware version says AMM111 in menu>information (manufacture date Mar 2016), if that helps any with HP chat.
 
Yeah, out of ideas. You don't see this message when you switch color>Quick View settings: link?

On the right side on the screen there are 3 buttons, press the "+" button in the middle twice and select Gaming, save your settings and you should get a notification to enable freesync.

Should be the same as quick view menu, but maybe using monitor buttons (if using remote before) will do something different.
 
Tried that a few weeks ago. Already set to gaming when I hit the middle button twice. I just unstalled the Intel graphics. Used drive cleaner, and reinstalled the most recent AMD drivers (again) along with the HP monitor driver. Still no luck.

Before all this I has a clean install of Windows 10 with a temporary nvidia graphic card. Did driver cleaner to uninstall the nvidia graphics then installed the 480 with the launch drivers.
 
If you don't get the "AMD freesync on" overlay from monitor (I see overlay pop up when monitor is connected via DP to Nvidia card) then don't think you can do anything on PC side to enable Freesync.

Edit: When I do a factory reset on monitor the Freesync overlay pops up too.

I tried the factory reset of the monitor as well earlier. Maybe I need to reinstall windows and try again?
 
I don't think anything can be done on PC side. The overlay is being displayed by monitor so probably HP monitor issue. Note: overlay will only show when DP is active connection (I don't see overlay if using HDMI) so may want to check cable.

Can you provide a screenshot of Crimson Display settings (like my first link)?
 
Download DDU.
Let it uninstall the AMD drivers.
When it asks to go into Safe Mode allow it.
Reinstall the newest AMD drivers.
Let us know if that fixes it.
 
Thats what I used to uninstall both original nvidia driver and my repeated attempts with the amd driver.
 
Full windows format and reinstall using the windows reset prompts wiping out all files....



No improvement... Must be card, cable, driver or monitor.
 
Cables can cause all sorts of issues, also the cheapest part to test.
 
thats my thinking as well. it would be the lowest quality item in the chain. Ill see about trying a new cable.

I am leaning toward there being a cable issue. Before getting the 480 I used a 7950 for a few months with this monitor and it would get periodic flashing on screen. I assumed a driver bug, and there reports this was a common issue with 7950's. But I still get very,very occasional flashing even with the 480 (like once or twice a day). Hopefully the new cable solves all these minor annoyances. Weird that a cable can matter so much.

New cable did not help. No change. Reset monitor to factory config, turned on displayport 1.2 and gaming mode. No Freesync yet.

I'll try contacting MSI.
 
What are the rest of your system specs?

Do you have integrated graphics or multiple displays that could conflict?

The problem is within the HP LCD man..I know you don't want to hear that (who would want to RMA a LCD? I've had to do it 3 times and it sucks)..Submit an RMA ticket with HP and get your a new panel and see what happens.
 
my first two attempts at rmaing have failed. will try again tonight. just getting through to tech support is a pain.
