I have 2 cpu/mobo combos. Which would be best for all around use (gaming/multimedia/etc)?

The 4790k is new with a Z97 mobo and the 3930k is a couple years old with a x79 mobo.

I would stick with the 4790k. It is a little stronger than the 3930k is (clock for clock). But as we all know if you start using the other 2 cpus it will move on to the top. Here is a quick chart for you to look at.

4970k vs 3930k

What is multimedia use for you, and what is etc? What games specifically do you play? Some games run faster on more cores, others don't care about the number of cores as long as there is more than 2.

General purpose, generally the 4790k is better.

I do a lot of video editing.

Games I play, IceWind Dale, Neverwinter Nights 1/2, Kings Bountry, etc...

Both CPUs/Mobos are free.

for general usage and versatility I vote for the 4790K.. specially if you aren't planning in a high overclock for the 3930K..

Video editing might benefit from the two additional cores. Everything else the 4790k will be better. If you're content with just letting the video editing run in the background while doing other things, go for the 4790k.
