So I finally purchased my motherboard and processor. I went with the ASUS Z97 Plus, and the i7 4790k. I was wondering if y'all might be able to enlighten me on what kinds of temperatures I should expect on this CPU from stock, and if overclocking is out of the picture or not, or if I might even need to undervolt.

I have to ask, is there a reason you're building with an 11 year old CPU?

I had a 4690k in an H97 ITX board and Corsair 250D case back then, had a 240 AIO. I really don't remember temp performance, it was ages ago.

put as big of a cooler on it as you can fit and it will probably run within spec, just not as cool as we tend to prefer....
dont try overclocking it in a sff.
also, why?

My cousin had one with a 212 on it and it was never above 65 in games...but when you OC Devil's Canyon, they tend to put out the heat, not like Haswell, but close.
And like pendragon1 said, do not OC in a SFF, unless you WC the whole 9 yards.

It would run even with a stock intel heatsink if you're not overclocking. It is odd that you're working with hardware so old without having a specific reason, but if that's what you've got to work with, then you can make it work. Windows 11 will run fine with a requirements bypass.
