4770 settings

Are you talking about OC settings or are you ref to what client that you should use?

If it's for OC settings, that card is not one of the more common ones for folding. So push it till the client doesn't EUE or it gets to hot for your comfort.

Talking, about OC settings and what program to use to OC ? Also what is EUE? Noobie here. :)

EUE is a crash of the WU. Work unit.
AMD has a nice OC utility. Or you could use riva tuner.

If you can run a WU for 1/2 day with no EUEs your good. There is little you can do to stress a system than fold.

I'd like someone that runs ATI cards. My experience with ATI is limited.

Start with ATI CCC (Catalyst control center) > ATI Overdrive and "unlock" it by clicking the "key". Go up on the GPU speed a few slots, (ie. from 750 up to 775) and then test. A utility named Furmark from Ozone3d is good to test your OC settings. Run it in "XTreme burning mode" at your full resolution for 3 to 5 minutes. If there are no artifacts (random noise) in the screen that is a safe new speed. RivaTuner is also popular if you can safely exceed the speed limits for GPU in Catalyst. You can then move up. These cards OC quite well, and you may be able to go all the way up to 850mhz without artifacting/corruption.

OC'ing memory yields no performance increase in folding@home.

Use either 6.23 GPU2 client. For Windows XP I recommend the "console"/command line version, for Windows Vista or Windows 7 I recommend using the Systray console. Don't worry about passkeys.

Do NOT open the viewer if using the systray console. It will either crash/EUE (early unit end) or greatly reduce performance. Fahmon or Fahspy are good for reporting results in points per day (PPD)...

I would also peruse the foldingforum.org > GPU client > ATI/AMD section to see what else you can use.

Don't expect huge PPD. You will likely get less than 3000 Points per day from that card on even the fastest work units.

There are also good threads here and in the foldingforum.org from Xillikon in regards to GPU2 and AMD/ATI folding@home with the GPU2 client, and configuration/installation methods.

You can get the client from here: http://folding.stanford.edu/English/DownloadWinOther

Have a look. You can't break anything :)

Thanks for the info. Im only getting 2250 PPD ? On my 260GTX I get 8900?

That sounds about right.

NV cards are much more productive on F@H because of the way the WU are structured.

Basicaly they have yet to figure out how to use the huge amount of shaders the ATI cards have.

Ya, the ATI cards are really low on ppd compared to team green. My 4890s at 875 Mhz are only getting a little better than 3k ppd each. I have tried running them at higher clocks but can't keep them stable enough. I'm gone enough that reliability is better than speed. Also I have 4 clients worth the bulk of my ppd running in 1 boxen so I don't like it when it crashes for half a day.

My 4850 is running a 5740 WU at 3:06 per tick on a 384 point WU. Ends up at 5 hours 10 minutes or 1780 ppd

Maybe in the future, the ATI stuff will work better with the shaders? When I increase the shaders on my NV card the PPD goes higher?

Hopefully. ATI was first to the folding scene, but as it stands it does more work to do a work unit and thus slower speeds.

Apparently the way things are right now F@H works faster with fewer high speed shaders like the 216 in your GTX 260 vs. the 640 in your 4770.

One can only hope. I had more reliability with my ATI clients in the past, but that's all gone downhill in the last 6 months.
