470 or 5870?

Wow, I had no idea ATI has no custom resolution and refresh rate option on its video cards. Is this really true?

Guess it's good I went with the 470s, then. I run the PC to a Plasma TV and both Crysis games have a known problem with running properly on at least some TV sets. They try to run at 24hz and there is no way to correct this unless you create a custom refresh rate.

Anyway, I don't know why everyone is going into hysterics. Yes, the 470 is slower than the 5870; it is also cheaper than a 5870 and faster than a 5850 in both single- and multi-GPU modes at 19x12 with AA in most games.

There is basically something at every price point for the enthusiast now.
 
I think they have a custom refresh rate for TVs not sure on this, but not for CRTs. But from all the google'ing I did on the subject it sucks for the people that run into the issue.
 
the new 400 series technology is seductive. i like how the new 400 is faster in higher resolutions than the 5000s.

You don't have to defend yourself. Yeah you spent more money than a 5850, but you got more performance too.
I think ATI cards have better bang for the buck, but Nvidia cards have their upsides as well. I don't like some of the shady business tactics that Nvidia has used (like the physx vendor lockout), but in the end performance matters to me.

its faster sometime not all the time.

and sometime is due to buffer limit.

6 months is a damn long time to wait. If it was 2 or 3 months away then you should consider waiting. But 6 months? Fuck it, buy a card now and love it.
