46C cpu @ idle...how to lower it?

Trying to figure out why my temp is so high. I've got an Antec SLK3700AMB with the 120mm rear fan, and a Speeze "FalconRock" HSF (this one). I could go out and buy another 120mm fan for the front of the case, if I knew that would actually help the cpu temp and not just the case temp (which is idling at 36C). Is it possible I didn't use enough Arctic Silver? (first time builder, wasn't sure just how thin/thick the layer should be)

I'd give you guys the load temp, but I haven't actually played any games on it yet :p

i think an intake fan would help your temps as well as another HSF

Yeah, your 36C case temp is high too. Whats your room temp like? Its cheap and easy to pick up some 80mm fans to get the air flowing in your case. 2 intakes at the front, 2 exhaust on the rear, preferably one intake on the side and one exhaust on the top but those might require cutting holes. Just get reasonably quiet fans, I recomend and use Zalman Z1 80mm fans. They are fairly quiet at top speed and if you want em really quiet thtey come with a "quiet mode" thingy. Theyre only about $3 each too. Bundling your wires, especially the tape strip ones will help the fans get the air through as well. As an example my case temp usually hovers around the 26-28C range. total of 6 80mm case fans move the air.

As for your CPU. The HSF you are using is not a great choice for an OCed CPU but still the temps shouldnt be that high. You may want to reapply the AS5 just to make sure thats not the problem. Read Arctic silvers instructions on their website and follow them exactly. IF its on too thick or too thin itll have to be done over. The first time I used it took 3 tries before I got it right. I used way too much the first few times.

Hope this helps.

Well my case only has slots for two fans, one 120mm fan in the rear and one in the front. I'll probably go out and buy the second fan for it tomorrow, see how much that helps.
