Which is faster? I am working on a project converting DVD to mp4 files to put on the iPad.

According to passmark it's the 6820 by about 1200 points. All you have to do is do the same encode with the same settings on each machine and see which gives the most fps. You should be able to OC the 4690k a good bit.

Use QuickSync if you can, that will take DVD encoding through the roof. Usually 2-3x whatever the CPU can muster. Although Handbrake has an issue with QuickSync on the 4xxxx series.

QuickSync while it looks better than NVEC and AMD VCE, still looks worse than CPU only.
I would never use GPU Encoding in its current state for my personal MP4 MKV library... But that's just me

If size isn't a concern, then use Quicksync i guess.

I thought the same thing. But after playing around with NVENC I am totally happy with it. You may not be able to get the same size/quality ratio. But after doing a lot of
comparisons I can't tell the difference. I think the differences are from the early stages or over hyped.

That said I use it just for TV recordings so they are already compressed quite a bit. For bluray I always just do straight rips.
