4690K still worth using?

LOL, components haven't really progressed an insane amount. I run an i5 4690k like the OP, it is paired to 16gb of some corsair ram and a fucking 760gtx 4gb card and I can play 1080p just fine. I think people really underestimate hardware sometimes. The 4gb on my card really helps me, most of the 760's are 2gb.

I always consider upgrading and end up asking why? My monitor is only 1080p as it is, so my hands are tied at that resolution anyway.
If you do not see a reason to upgrade from the gtx 760 for the latest games then you have some low standards. You either have settings greatly reduced or shitty performance and in some cases both. Maybe screen tearing and/or not maintaining 60 fps just does not matter to you but for many it does. And I guess you have not heard of DSR as you are certainly not tied to 1080p.

You should go back and visit older hardware. You'll be surprised. That said, the newest game I play is GTA V, which really isn't new anymore.

There is no reason to do so as I was clearly referring to the latest games and you have now confirmed you don't play those. That is why having context is so important as what you originally said was a bit misleading.

It really isn't. Even at the launch of GTAV, the 760 as old by any standards. It still plays that game perfectly. I was using it as an example that you don't need the latest and greatest to enjoy gaming. Which was entirely in line with the guy I quoted.

Yes. DSR does change the algebra somewhat but auntjemima was surely not trying to be misleading. This thread isn't about playing the latest games on the latest hardware with DSR. It is about whether a 4690K is still usefull.
Auntjemima and I have provided anecdotal evidence that, yes, it is still usefull.

My i5 4690K / GTX 1070 @ 1440p is holding up pretty well in 2018. Watch Dogs 2 choked a bit in certain areas, so reducing some eye candy mostly fixed it. Same goes for AC Origins, but that game seemed better optimized and there were very few hiccups.

I have this same setup 4690k and 1070 at 1440p. I've yet to find a solid reason to upgrade other than just because.. I suspect mins/1% lows etc would be more stable, but otherwise at above 1080p the 4690k is still doing well. My next upgrade was going to be a 2600x ryzen, but I don't have the spare funds for an upgrade that will essentially see me with little actual performance benefit just for casual use/casual gaming.

Sigh, it was most certainly misleading what you originally posted with no context so cut the obtuse act. Hell you even went on to say "the newest game I play is GTA V, which really isn't new anymore" which fully admits you are not playing newer more demanding games.

And what the hell would "still useful" imply? I think anyone with an IQ above a fishstick would think that refers to newer games not older games.

You're the only one arguing your point. An incorrect one at that.

You originally gave NO context at all then on the following reply you flat out say that GTA V is the newest game you have and admit it is not even considered new. There is really something wrong with you if you cant see how idiotic it was to act like there is no reason to upgrade from an old 760 yet not even be playing newer games.

Yo, fishstick…
I'm playing GR:W on high on a 3770 with a 580. Farcry 5 ditto. Witcher 3... For Honor... Fortnight
GTA5 is still a graphically demanding game. We think a 46xx is still usefull on even the latest games. What do you think?

Most people can answer that question without being a pedantic little fuckwad.
How about you?
