4690k overclocking - random shutdowns.

MSI gz97 gaming 5
4690k w/ deepcool cool 2 fans
16gb corsair vengence
650w rosewill gold psu
r9 290 w/ H55 cooler
Currently running windows 10 10041

Even the slightest overclock I get random shutdowns even after being stable for Intel extreme tuning utility, cinebench, gaming, and doing rendering/stress analysis in autodesk inventor (keeps processor pegged at 100% for a long time). Temps are all good never sees past 75C even when I was at 4.6ghx 1.25v. Sadly it gets just as hot gaming as stress testing because my gpu water cooler has to be mounted as intake at the front of my case.

After the random shutdowns began I backed it all the way down to 4.0ghz at 1.18v . Yet just now I got a random shutdown after just turning on my pc and walking away to make coffee.

I disabled turbo, c1e, c-state, and anything I knew was a power-saving feature and I know. Vcore stays at 1.18v and it no longer downclocks, of course.

Luckily I've never had it shutdown while I'm using the computer at all (even when browsing and/or using inventor for hours on end) it always happens when I walk away for a few minutes. I wouldn't even worry about overclocking as it doesn't help my games too much but my large assemblies in inventor run an incredible amount smoother even with a small bump up to say 4.2.

Anything settings I may have missed/neglected to disable that can cause this?

Stay away from MSI motherboards. I've had nothing but flakes.

I'd go with Asus, Asrock, Gigabyte... In that order far as stability and flake.
 
For a start 4.6ghz on only 1.25 volts might be too optimistic and to me it just seems like 4.6ghz was never truly 100% stable at 1.25 volts.

here's a good guide make sure to read page 1 post 1 all the way through some important points are stress test with manual voltage and power states off and that overclocking the uncore ratio isn't needed and to manually set it to the default clock ratio and it's voltage on auto and to increase cpu input voltage
