I have both a 4670K processor and a 4970S.
I can run either one with a Hyper212 or a H100i to cool and I am looking for opinions on which would be better for gaming.
I checked the 4670K and it runs at a constant 4400 on the Intel cooler with no voltage boosts.
All opinions welcome.

I have a 4790s that I use in my small form factor gaming system. The S does not overclock beyond 4GHz, it's max turbo level, but I can under volt it to keep temps low in my smaller case hence why I choose it. Looking at some old benchmarks from when devils canyon released, it looks like it really depends on how well multi threaded the games you are playing are. With the difference in clock being .4 GHz I would assume that the benefits of hyper threading will be more useful if you are not looking to upgrade in the near future.

it's hardly possible to imagine a 4670K overclocked to 4.4ghz on all cores with the stock intel cooler and no voltage boost, specially being the first haswell revision with more than abnormal shitty quality TIM, where did you see that?.

At this point of the market I wouldn't pick any of those but a 4790K if you aren't planing on overclock.. if the choices are strictly about those 2 models I would pick the 4790S.

Sounds like I better recheck myself Araxie. I will do a full re-test to see if I have screwed up. The original question was based on having both CPUs. I have them and just want to trade off the lesser unit.

well, honestly the 4670K may be have a faster sell rate as being an Unlocked chip is highly valuable, the 4790S is based on the haswell revision "devil's canyon" so it have better TIM and voltage regulation but is also a "low power" model so it can be cooled easily by any kind of cooler, so cooler shouldn't be an issue, the Hyper 212 will do a fantastic job there working quiet as the temps aren't going to be high..
