I know this question has been beatin to death...i've done my searching and I still can't find a straight answer. So I figure I would explain my situation, and see what everyone thinks.

Right now I own 2x Asus 5850's (reference board). I was suprised how poorly the 5850's compared to the 460's in the [H] review yesterday. So I was sold, going to get the 460's, but then I read some comments from people stating that the new drivers from ATI is holding the 5850's back.

So I guess my question is, would I be making a mistake if I got rid of what I got??

I dunno if this makes a diff, but my max res for the forseable future will be 1920x1200.

I would keep them. A 460SLI configuration isn't going to be much of an improvement to justify trying to offload the 5850s. But monetarily I don't think you'll lose any cash by doing it. Are you happy with your 5850s right now?
 
At 1920x1200... You're using 2 5850s? I would have thought one would do the job. You'll lose money on the 460s. Unless you really want the Nvidia extras such as folding CUDA (like I do) you're fine on the ATi.

The gtx is a great card and performs well in sli, but its not worth upgrading from 5850's xfire.

Your current setup should be good enough for playing at 1920x1200, heck even one should be enough for most games.
 
I don't think it's worth the trouble. Especially since you're not really pushing it and your gaming requirements aren't that high. Personally when I upgrade I like to see noticeable changes.
 
I think it's definitely worth the trouble.

If you sell your 5850's, you will have enough cash to get the GTX 460. Ask yourself why would you keep option A, if you can get option B (that performs better) for cheaper? So basically, you get a lot more performance AND save money.

Clear answer here.

p.s.
Don't wait for ATI to resolve anything with their drivers.

Perfect.....sticking with what I got for now. I'm stuck at 1920x1200 becasue I just bought a 24" monitor, and I would lose my shirt if I sold it to buy a bigger one :mad:

Not worth it for the marginal benefit in my view.

On the other hand, I despise ATI's drivers, and CF makes you even more dependent on them, tragically. My 5870x2 has been nothing but a hassle.
 
2x5850 for 1920x1200...don't waste your time selling and then buying the 460 imho.

I run a single 5850 for my 2560x1600 and I have no complaints, even w/ extra eye candy turned up etc.
 
Remember to use the 10.5B? Drivers. This was the last driver known to work with crossfire. If you are using 10.6 or 10.7, that might be the issue.

I'm using 10.4a, actually, which are typically considered to be the best for CF and EF. Still kind of garbage.
