46" LCD, 1920x1080, 12ms Response Time

Not sure if anyone has posted this yet, but the Samsung LTP468W LCD TV looks like it could be a REALLY nice computer monitor as well. 1920x1080 resolution and a 12ms response time, 170 degree viewing angle.

DVI input, dual component inputs, plus HDMI (with HDCP) for both VGA and HD signals.

You'll pay for such a monster - list price is $10k, with sale prices around $7.5k - but it might just be worth it...

What do people think? Too TV-like? Too expensive? The shape of things to come? Something you've got to run out and buy tomorrow?

What I wouldn't give for a [H] review...

:eek: i gladly step up to the plate and will review this for us. a few caveats however.. one, i don't pay any of it and two, i get to keep it when i'm done 'reviewing' as payment for my services. length of 'review' period yet to be determined. oh and i'd need two to test its tv functionality at the same time.. :p

on a more serious note.. get it down to 4k and i'd gladly pay up for it.

i cant imagine a screen that large for a computer monitor..fully four TIMES the screen area of a 23" widescreen...that's crazy..
 
1920x1080 on a 46in widescreen at a distance of 1-2ft would look like shit. Sure it would work for a display for a home theatre pc or something, but you couldn't put it on your desk and sit a couple ft from it. I wonder what the dot pitch is on the thing.
 
That means every pixel on that thing is gonna be about 4x as big as on my 23 inch LCD... every icon will be 4 times as big... sorry but I ain't *that* vision impaired :p Even now I try to maintain a distance of about 2 feet.... so for the monitor I'd have to be about 4 feet away?

Heck no, sit two feet away from it and you'll feel like you're there, wandering in the rolling green hills of the default WinXP desktop :)

Non-HDCP sources will work with displays with HDCP. But HDCP sources will only work with displays with HDCP.

Heh, gotta love Samsung, one of the few manufacturers that specifically states it's PC compatible. The manual even tells you to use DVI if available to get a better picture with a PC.
 
Finally! Good to see another HDTV with true 1080i capability...Almost every HDTV out there supports 1080i but they don't have the full resolution, usually something like 1280 x 768 or some variant, yet they still call it 1080i...this is much better! it's full capability.

I suppose you can use it to sit a little further away than just 1ft across your desk...3-5ft and it'll be far enough away that it won't be totally pixelly, but you'll be close enough to feel like you're inside the action.

Nice, now that I think of it that does make sense, I have just used too many Sony sets that won't work with non-HDCP compliant sources.
 
Honestly though, why would you possibly want this as a monitor? The supported resolutions and overall image quality would look horrid on it, much less the actual everyday applicable usability. This is nearly as large as the TV in my house, and that's already big. I wish I understood the fanaticism of extremely large screens as monitors. Perhaps my eyes are just too far gone to care, but 19" is plenty good for me as a monitor.

It would definitely make a killer movie watching box though.
