Whats the advantage? I'm looking to build a mini farm or get at least 1 quad folder, do the 45nm oc much better?
 
I havent seen anyone with a q9450 yet so no idea how it clocks. But the extra 4m l2 cache should help it out a bit.
 
I read a review of the dual core 45nm chips... they OC'd exceptionally well. Got it up above 4 Ghz without exotic cooling.

Well, the 8x multiplier on the Q9450 kind of stinks. That's one strike against it. Also, since the SMP client was developed with 8MB quads in mind, and folding won't use SSE4, I doubt the Yorkfield will be much faster than Kentsfield in SMP, clock-per-clock.

A Yorkfield QX9650 at 3 GHz draws less power than a dual-core X6800 at 2.93 GHz. That's pretty impressive. The charts at XS confirm.



 
So you would need a board that can handle a 500fsb. I know my ram can handle that, but the 8x does suck :(
 
These chips are exactly what i'm waiting on. I bought the IP35 pro and I'm ready for them to be released. Although I might wait for the refresh and try to get the 9x multi. We'll have to see.
