45C+ idle temps 6600?

I'm geting 45C idling in the bios with a Q6600. B3 stepping I think. I just got it and am wondering if this is normal for the regular heatsink.
 
BIOS temps aren't particularly reliable, and idle temps aren't what matter so much. Check your idle and load temps with coretemp (with the tjunction at 100C) and see what kind of results you get. B3 quads are known for running somewhat hot, so if you're under 70C load I'd say you're fine.
 
They do run hot. Mine has cores ranging from 42-50C at idle and that's on a Tuniq.

Ambient is probably 78F or so.

As was said, load it up on all four cores and make sure you aren't over ~65C or so. That's MY personal comfort zone.
 
Hitting 70C+ at load. I stopped it at 70c after like 10 minutes or so. But that was also when it was about 80F outside.
 
70+ Is a little too warm IMO, try reseating the heatsink and reappling thermal paste.
 
Yea sounds normal to me too. I think the quads would really be best paired with some good water cooling, especially if you plan to OC a whole lot. Then you can really help them live up to thier potential :D
