Have one right now (2GB version) and debating whether to pick up a second one for quadfire. Have the power to feed the beast (Corsair HX1000), but possibly bottlenecked by the cpu (9850BE on an Asus M3A79T at 3.2GHz with 8GB ram which is fast enough for pretty much everything I do). Good idea, or a waste of money? Thanks for the input.

Edit: that should be 4850x2 in the title...

i have a 4850x2 and was thinking about doing that, but it wou;d take up too much room in my case, so i am going another way. if you are interested in a used, mint 4850x2, shoot me a pm.

just wait for the new video cards coming out in the fall. 4850x2 should be enough for all your needs. I love mine.

It was a bit buggy at first as I couldn't run World of warcraft on ultra until recently with Cat 9.5. After the update, it's smooth sailing.

Waiting is pointless when it comes to any kind of electronics, there is ALWAYS something new coming out.

Yeah but what's the point in buying something when if you wait 2 months something that'll stomp it is going to come out? Especially if money is tight and it's a big purchase.

Quad crossfire doesn't scale particularly well, you could be better off getting two faster cards.

quad gpu of anything generally sucks. there is a sharp point of diminishing returns past two gpus. I would tell you to save your money and either upgrade to a higher card or wait.

Yes, I'm going to hold out and maybe get a pair of 4890s once the prices drop a little further. I'm happy with the 4850x2 for the most part, but I'm always looking for something a little faster :)

ran a 4870X2+4850X2 in xfire with very little performance boost over the 4870X2 by itself and that was with a 955BE ES@4.75ghz on DICE

oh and you don't need that big of a PSU ran mine on a Tt 850w TX2
