Ok I have bought a new Sonata II case about a month ago and yes pulled the paper tag off as directed. This is the rig running the P4P and 7800GS. From the second you power it on it squeels. To confirm the noise area I pulled the video card and noticed no change. Just a high pitched noise coming from the PSU. I isolated this by convering up the rear exhaust for a second and the sound disappears.

Is this normal? Should I RMA it with Antec? Or should I just invest a $100 in a good PSU? If so give some suggestions (Quiet and powerful = good)

No, i've unplugged the vid card to test this and no change in sound. Its really an annoyingly high pitch sound. I have a bundle of printouts resting on top of my computer to shield the sound atm.

At least it filters less to my ears if the sound can't travel up and into my ears!

Well if it is a wihning kind of sound it is probably windings on the main transformer not completely varnished which is allowing them to move or a coil pressing on another component.

So what one to replace it with? I've decided I'm building a system for a family member and I doubt they will hear the pitch! So... What to buy to replace it? I kinda like the OCZ Modular 520. But the $199 one is really nice! 700watt peak, wow that would easily handle my future (less then a year) upgrade to 45nm technology and whatever the highest end graphics cards are at that time.

Any suggestions?

Sunin i had the exact same problem. But i had with the 500 watt version, it worked fine for months but recently it was making high pitch sounds that i could not stand anymore. Went to to store bought ocz powerstraem 520 watt problem gone. Dont think ill buy an antec again since ive noticed a bunch of ppl coming down with same problem.

I may go with the more expensive modular unit the 600 OCZ just to future proof myself. I am planning to do a full revamp on my system in early 2007 when the Quad / Octal cores come out on the 45nm tech. I imagine i will go SLI or whatever the screaming video setup is at that time!

At least I'm glad i'm not alone! Irritates me though I'm going to RMA it I think as I said I'm building a basic excel / word machine for a family member. With having the OCZ inhouse they can take their time and repair the thing and if they don't rma it that will be the last I ever use Antec. I love their Sonata II cases, but if quality is lacking I'll find alternatives down the road!
