450w enough?

I'm planning on getting a new power supply down the road when I start heavily overclocking. I was looking at the Cooler Master 450w. It has dual rails, and is apparently very quiet and reliable. I know wattage definatly isn't everything, but I just wanted to confirm that it would be enough to run the system in my sig when I start overclocking more. (If somebody just ignores everything and only suggests a 520Powerstream, PCP&C, or Neopower, you WILL be ignored).

the reason someone would point out those supplies
especially in conjunction with overclocking is that they all exceed spec in load regulation

you can run the numbers on that config yourself

then deduct 3\4 of the amp draw for everything that spins

I don't have the money for one of those psus as I need to get several other things at the same time. Also the noise wasn't the main selling point, just a plus.

but you don't understand. people feel as though it is there job to try and get you to spend 120 and up on a PSU you don't really need. The truth of the matter is that a nice 460 to 480 watt Antec Enermax Fortron or Zippy will do the same job for under 100.00.

All these PSU will do a very good job. They are all under 100.00 too.

You don't need to spend 120.00 or higher to get a very good psu.

but you don't understand. people feel as though it is there job to try and get you to spend 120 and up on a PSU you don't really need. The truth of the matter is that a nice 460 to 480 watt Antec Enermax Fortron or Zippy will do the same job for under 100.00.

alternately I could recommend a $170 350 watt supply
it unusual in that it doesnt have gobs of amps on the +3.3V & +5V rails padding the total wattage
but it still has the amps on the +12V rails where he needs it

the point being he needs to make three determinations
1. is this supply simply for this config or is it an infrastructure investment
2. how serious is he about overclocking
3. the actual amps he needs now and throughout the planned lifespan of the supply

in the first case he has a 20 pin board and any 20 pin supply is a deadend
the board also isnt PCI-E, if he hopes to power a PCI-E board in the future adding another 12A onto the +12V rail isnt out of the questuon (minimum 6.25A maximum 24A for next gen SLi)

in the second case an overspec clean and stable PSU is often sited as the single best investment to increase an overclock

PS some of those supplies listed arent up to the config he listed at all
the SL450 has all of 20A +12V before derating for temperature
and is just asking for trouble

Also I heard the Modstreams were crap. Though I may just forget getting a Cooler Master Stacker, and just get a Chemning 602 and a Neopower, I hope not to.

i would recommend the neopower very much, i just had problems with power supply and what not, or so i thought, but the neopower is very stable and has plenty of power on the +12 V rail for you to use, so if you are willing to spend that much, i would say the neopower is worth it.

pretty good supplies
Topower P6 series like the Powerstreams are
but modular, they edged out the Neopowers in load regulation when Mike Chin tested them
but it was really close, within the margin of error Id say

I'll take a second look at the ModStream then. Also, I know Super Flower makes good psus, but are they worth consideration when in the same price range as I'm looking at? They make a 550w modular psu with a 140mm fan and 30a on the 12v rail. Is that worth taking a gander at? http://xoxide.com/superflower-ttgi-plug-n-550w-ps.html
