I'm getting about 55-60 running prime95 on stock settings. I recently got into overclocking my cpu, and gradually increased the bus to 216mhz where i got a fatal error in prime95. The temperature may be about 1-2 degrees higher, if that. Anything under 216mhz i dont get any errors, and I've ran it for a couple hours. My question is could my temperature be the reason im getting the error? My idle with no overclocking is around 40 degrees. Are my temps just too high for overclocking? I do have 3 fans in my case, which is an xblade.

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4200+
ASUS A8N5X motherboard
4x512 2gb Dual Channel DDR Memory
Nvidia GeForce 6800gs 256mb
Deskstar HDS722516VLSA80 hard drive

If its a stock cooler and in a closed case, its just a touch above normal. The stock cooler really sucks for the x2's.

If its getting that hot i'd recommend going aftermarket. Mine when oc'ed ran around 34 idle, and up to 62 load with the stock cooler (with case open), bought the cheap gigabyte g-power lite from newegg (like 22$+s/h) and temps went do to 30 idle and 42-44c load running ORTHOS over 20 something hours.

As for it causing it, it could be, i've heard these chips don't like getting up around 65c and to be asked to be stable.

i thought i read that the threshold on these chips is 58c. i have the same CPU and they usually recommend stopping your OC once you hit 50c under load and keep things under 50c.

Well mine goes above 50c on STOCK! I probably should get a new cpu fan/heat sink, though i never have installed one before...

Wow, thats a pretty big improvement! Sounds like a good idea.
