400GB ATA drive in enclosure problem

I recently put a 400GB seagate ATA drive in an external usb/firewire enclosure (the enclose says metal gear box solid on the side, bought from compusa) connected through mini firewire. I filled up maybe around 250GB of data on it and started to burn a DVD. When the DVD finished burning, Nero stated that there were some errors. Apparently the last AVI file on the DVD was corrupt.

At first I thought that I had just run out of room on the DVD, since it was almost exactly to the end. That was not the case however. I tried going into my drive to check the corrupt file, and it didn't play. I then tried to play the other video files on the cd and found that only the audio played. I then got out of that folder and tried to open another folder on the drive, no go, it said "Drive E is inaccessible".

I thought then that maybe restarting the computer was a good idea, as it usually fixes any windows problems (I'm using XP SP2 in the m6811 laptop in my sig). Upon shutting down I get an error that the M$ folder or something is corrupt on the drive. When I started my computer up again I tried to go into the drive, but windows gives the inaccessible message again. When I looked at the properties of the drive it sayed 0 bytes of 0 bytes used. Using disk management I saw that windows saw the entire drive.

Scan disk didn't work, then I used a program called getdataback for NTFS to see if it could help me out. It saw my data on the hard drive, but it could not fix the partition. I know the hard drive is still good, it hasn't made any weird noises, it just messed up in windows. I was thinking that maybe the enclosure doesn't support hard drives as large as 400gb.

Is there any program out there that will let me fix the partition? This drive has my life on it.
If it helps, this enclosure looks just like mine, but with a different company name. Any help at all is greatly appreciated.

Bridge boards sometimes have a problem with drives of a certain size. That could be it.

I have one that won't work with WD's over 250 but will work with a Maxtor up to 300. According to the manufacturer anyways.

Seeing it looks like you may have lost it all, I would be tempted to put it back on a ide controller and have a look at it with something like this

I have never used it.

I don't have access to a mb right now. Are there any other possibilities? I saw how at best buy they used an enclosure to remove data off drives. I have an enclosure, does anyone have the software?

What should the jumpers on the drive be set to?

All jumper info can be found on the website. My "guess" would be slave...probably not the stock cable select settings

Bump it again, and I'm sure it'll get locked. (in fact, I'll request that it is)

Jumper it to master if it's the master (last on data cable), and slave if it's the slave(middle of data cable). If you don't know enough to do this, go to the website of the drive's manufacturer, and look for the jumper settings there.

Your enclosure or your drive may have died. Windows may not be the greatest but I doubt it is the problem. This sounds like your hardware is broken.
