Hello all,

Im overclocking a 4000+ as seen in my signature... Ive been just about around to every forum, tried everything... but i cant get stable over 2900MHz. I dont know why, I have a San Diego Core 4000+, LanParty SLi DR motherboard...best ocing board on the market, OCZ VX RAM, best overclocking ram imo... it will run in the 2900's ~ game stable with prime... even 2990 but as soon as you hit those digits 3000.... it wont even boot... i dont understand... ive been though 8 different sticks of ram, 2 motherboards, ive ruled out the processor, i went out and bought watercooling, i have all mosfets cooled, enermax 35A 12v rail... eh... im finally learning to settle @ 2880 :-( i was just wondering if any of you have any tips for me... thanks a bundle ...

wow, 2900mhz? be happy with that, think about it. thats faster than a FX-57 for like a fourth of the price.

Thats not a bad OC. You can only go so far, and the higher the stock speed, the smaller the OC to max out the core will be (this applies most of the time).

That's a pretty good OC...but just a word of the wise....if that's your sig...it's WAY over the 10 line limit...maybe wanna short it a lot...just so you know. But on topic...that OC is pretty nice, you may have just hit a wall.

it could be worse ;) you could have got a bad chip! Kick ass OC!

sorry about that, new to this forum... but thanks for all your input...yeah thats not a bad oc... i just did the super pi 32M test and got 25m 52s ... i was going to enter my comp into the superpi thread but i dont know if 2880s cuttin it :-D

check up with the a64 oc database over in AMD to see how most a64 san diego's are clocking. you definitly have a chip that's a bit above average

a) thats a nice overclock
b) maybe you could explain to us your secret to ruling out your processor as the bottleneck

Well, obviously this guy isn't one to settle with 2.88 Ghz! Keep pushing, i admire that. I can't just sit back and be like "oh good enough, i'll ignore the inexplicable wall." I, personaly, always want more. And if this guy does too, great.

Ok, what voltage are you using? What are the idle and load temps? Give us some screenshots. What PSU do you have? How strong is the +12V rail? You running HT multiplier of 3X right?

as for suggestions: play with ram dividers, play with ram timings via A64 tweaker. Raise chipset voltage, raise LDT voltage. If temps are high, try priming at night with the windows open (assuming its cold outside) to see if lowering temps a few degrees C has any effect. Maybe also try a new bios. And try different multipliers.

Well, thanks for your support...

Some information I can give you is

VCore - 1.610
12VRail- 35A ( Enermax 535W)
Running 3x HT multi...
the bios I have support my OCZ VX ( high voltage) ram so I kindof have to stick with those bios (704-2BT)
and I have watercooling

Idle 31~32
stress MAX 40c

i have ruled out the ram because I just got these, they memtest fine, and there rated

2-2-2-5 250MHz @ 3.4 volts so i know i can do what ever i want with the ram...

edit - im running out right now or id start to try some different things...be back in a few hrs tho.| also have some screenies when i get back.

Try using the 11x and 10x multipliers with the proper ram dividers. Try increasing the chipset and LDT voltage.

im interested in seeing what you can do since i have the same. I have a stock HSF so im not OCing. 2.9 looks pretty nice.

i have the same prob with my 3200+ clawhammer(the 2Ghz 1mb L2 version). it wont run @2.4Ghz but any lower it will. i have tinkered with every setting i can get my hands on. I will see what happens when i watercool it in a month or so

ugh i knew i should have messed around with what I had...it went back to the old ocand it was bsoding so i reset cmos and it was bsoding at stock settings now it wont turn on.

fucking great...im about to throw the whole fucking heap of shit out the motherfucking window
if i fried one more fucking thing i swear to fucking god im going to just fucking give up and sell the whole fucking thing...

its the ram...the computer starts in sdr

|||| - dimm slots

full full empty empty

but not

full empty full empty (ddr)

well all seems to be fine now ?

im memtesting on stock settings 1hour no errors...

but it bsods when trying to go into windows...i think its thisway because

the registry got so decimated...it just cant take it...it was missing very crucial files and i pulled the power on it during a chk disk because i realized my water wasnt flowing because of a kink that i had just made in it lol...so i took no chances...well ill see how a good old format treats me..

ouch, sorry you encountered those problems. Hope the reformat helps out. Stay away from water kinks! lol... i know water has a high heat capacity but its just a matter of time before the standing water really heats up.

lol yeah sorry for going crazy lol...i just flipped out because i dont know if i can take any more RMA's.... actually the format helped and i primed it

12hours and 33minutes it ran...

is that good enough...

well im glad it works ( . )

bump

is this stable?

12 hours prime is totally stable man. I dont have the patience, i usually stop after an hour or so and then play some games. If nothing crahes then its good enough for me. What speeds are you at now?

1.610 vcore is too high to be running 24/7 imo... try burning it in to get it to around 1.5

i have watercooling

its stable at 2880

but im trying

242x12 | 2904

2-2-2-6 @ 3.5V

i tried

275x10.5

and i got 11800 3dmarks ? wtf ....

before at lower speeds i got 13060\

can you see anything wrong with this ?

on watercooling you aren't gonna get more than 2880...

you might see a few people get some lucky silicon and hit 3ghz...but it is rare...

it's like seeing people modifying cars getting super high dyno numbers out of XXX set of components...while the average is less...

be happy with your overclock...

it's not like you are running phase

i have ocz vx...it can do 2-2-2-5 @ 250 MHz

im doing 2-2-2-6 @ 240...

would it really help?

Did you try it?

Remember processor speed is king. Screw tight timings.
