4-pin 12v connector????

I'm an avid computer builder but, I just came across a new one. I bought an FIC AU13 motherboard for my step-daughter and just to be safe, I also bought a new Antec power supply. The motherboard has a 4-pin 12v connector on it that I've never seen before. Luckily, the new power supply had the 4-pin 12v plug on it. The old power supply didn't have this plug, so it prolly wouldn't have worked, right? What's up with this? Is there a reason the new motherboards have this? Someone please shed some light on this please.
