in my search for a new LCD monitor, I'm curious what kind of high quality gaming monitors are available in the 4:3 format with an S-IPS panel, maybe even an S-PVA

ghosting is not a huge concern because I'm sure my current laptop LCD has horrible ghosting and its never bothered me. I'm more concerned with picture quality, backlight bleeding, and viewing angles. I prefer glossy panels and I'll be using it for gaming, browsing, and movies

suggestions?

I've actually been considering a widescreen for awhile, but I dunno, I'm curious what is available in 4:3, and now I'm slightly undecided which format I want to buy (4:3 or 16:10)

Whats your budget and what size screen were you wanting? I'm assuming you were wanting a 20" 4:3. I would suggest a dell 2007fp or samsung 204b if thats what you're looking for.

budget: preferrably $350-$450, but if it were really really worth it...maybe as much as $550

size: 19"-22"

ok, is there a "panel lottery" with the Dell 2007fp? and what kind of panels are those?

please list what kind of panel and if its glossy or anti-glare

There is no lottery with the 4:3 2007FP...it's S-PVA except for a small percentage at the beginning of the production run. The 2007FP is anti-glare and I don't believe there are any non-widescreen glossy monitors. For widescreen I suggest either playing the Dell lottery with the 2007FPW or play the Acer lottery with the Ferrari F-20 (since you prefer glossy) .....even if you lose this one you'll get a P-MVA panel which is still better than getting the S-PVA with the Dell.

there most certaintly is a 4:3 glossy panel! the NEC duh! they make the 90gx2, the same thing as the 20" widescreen but in 19". Which of coiurse price wise and decision wise puts you right where you'd be if you were looking at widescreen monitors (go with NEC, clearly the best and no panel switching, but also the most expensive, or go with the Dell lottery).

The 90GX2 does not use an S-IPS panel it is a TN panel.

If you want a 4:3 S-IPS in your price range below are your main options.,

19 inch
NEC LCD1990FX-BK

20 inch
NEC LCD2070NX-BK
HP L2065

wow thats a really awesome price for the HP L2065. is it glossy or anti-glare? if its glossy I'll definitely buy it. I may have to jump on it regardless considering the price compared to other S-IPS monitors...is there a panel lottery?

how do people like the HP? I'll read more about it when I'm not at work, lol, but here is what newegg is selling it at:

how about the NEC LCD2070NX-BK? is that glossy or anti-glare?

All of the 19 inch and 20 inch 4:3 panels are non-glossy.

Hi, I'd like to jump in on this thread... as I'm also looking for a new 1600x1200 display (will buy a pair).

There are lots of models to choose from, which ones stand out?

Dell 2007FP 300, 800:1, 16ms
LG L2000C 300, 800:1, 8ms
NEC 2070VX 300, 800:1 5ms
NEC 2070NX 250, 400:1 16ms
Samsung 204B 300, 800:1 5ms
Samsung 214T 200, 1000:1, 8ms
HP 2065 300, 800:1, 8ms
Viewsonic 2030b, 300,1000:1, 8ms

It seems the LG and then the Samsung 204B are the best value here in Canada. Is there anything wrong with either of these displays?

Is there anyone of the lot above that stands out as clearly superior and is worth paying extra for?

What's the difference between the two NEC displays? The NX has lower specs but is higher priced!

it seems to me that the HP LP2065 is probably the best all-around 4:3 LCD, I'll probably be ordering one early march

This is the first real report of it.

Are you sure?? Where did u get urs from?

Mine is coming on Wed. I sure hope to God it's IPS or I am going to be mighty pi$$ed.

Gosh, I'd hate to be the first.

Yes, I'm 100% sure. I'm staring at it right now...hehe

Ordered it from PC Connection (wonderful customer service and prompt shipment, highly recommended...too bad HP had to screw it all up)

I've been trying to get the word out on the forums...the monitor has input lag like no other...it feels sooooo slow...

This is what it says on the service menu:

Firmware Revision
REV.115

LCD Part Number:
AUO M201UN02-V6

and on the back of the monitor:

AMM000
Made December 2006
Product of China

I'm trying to decide what to do with it now. I don't use it for photo editing/gaming/movie watching so I'm not really THAT concerned. I DO use it for trading stocks and browsing the web and this input lag is killing me. Hopefully I can get use to before I go insane and put this thing through the window. hehe

Good luck...where did you order yours btw?

Securemart.

Any advice on what I can do to return it? I'm scared to open it now ;-|.

Take a look at the box and check to see if the REV is AMM000 or anything about the firmware being .115. I THINK (not completely sure) that the older .114 revision is IPS.

Let me know what you find. I might try securemart if you're successful. Just ordered an Ergotron Arm from them yesterday... What shipping did you use? I was hesitant to use anything except Next Day Air due to Ground shipments being handled improperly.

Thanks

Seems like IPS panels are slowly disapearing.. I think its the higher cost to produce them vs. the cheaper VA and TN panels that make them not as popular..

But, if I do not open the box, would I be able to return it, do you think?

Can anyone else who has this monitor tell me, please, what their box says re: model #?

Thanks again.

(I used FedEx Ground, btw)

gosh I hope they don't suddenly start using PVAs right at the time I order one. I will probably order mine thursday and receive it the following week. I'll let post here when I know which panel I have

I created the HP L2065 lottery thread, lets shift that discussion over there
