I have read a lot about triple CF of 7970 for three 30" monitors, I don't think I need that much GPU power so I am only going with single crossfire (2 cards). I will mainly be playing Diablo3 when it launches. So three questions:

1) Are there any known problems with 7970 CF w/ 30" eyefinity across 3 monitors?
2) Would 1 card be able to run these 3 monitors in non-gaming situations (I read 2nd card shuts down if not needed). My work is not graphics intensive.
3) I originally had 2x GTX 580 3GB in SLI slated since I thought I could take advantage of CUDA for work, but its not looking that way. I noticed the 580's don't have multiple display ports so opted for the 7970's after seeing benchmarks - based on my needs did I make the right decision?

1) No
2) The second crossfire card will run at idle speeds. the first card will run at speeds above normal compared to having only 1 monitor connected.

Diablo 3 does not support eyefinity, so you will only be playing on one monitor, and crossfire probably isn't needed at one monitor.

Eyefinity in D3 beta does work in windows mode but I don't know if Bliz will remove it for the release. I run xfire 7970s and play the beta on one screen (1920x1200) and my videocard utilization is around 30% with 100fps. Who knows what the release version will look like so buy one 7970 for now and see if it's adequate.

I read about D3 not supporting eyefinity so that changes things a bit, and even in windowed mode, it only uses 1 card (not both from what I have read) and even then, the game will show objects only on the middle third, whereas the first and third portions will only show shadows or outlines of scenery and no monsters or game items.

Thanks for the other info, sounds like if I end up getting 2 more ZR30w's the crossfire will easily support eyefinity in a non-gaming setup.

I am not purchasing Diablo 3 because it doesn't support Eyefinity. Same reason why I didn't purchase Starcraft II.

I can see why they didn't support it in SC2 which I bought as well. SC2 is a competitive game against other players and having that extra real estate would be a very big advantage. Blizzard didn't want the "pros" to buy wins, they wanted to cater to the grandma's.

Something like D3 though which is mostly PvE (eyefinity doesn't really help in PvP arena) I really don't get it either. Blue posts have stated isometric viewpoint isn't worthwhile for eyefinity, but that just sounds like a copout excuse to me.

And that's fine, they just need to deal with losing customer(s). I'll just play Torchlight I guess.

With my monitors in eyefinity portrait mode. Diablo 3 beta only allows me to choose the max resolution of 1024x768 windowed mode. (1920x1200 rotated).

IMO, i should be able to play 1920x1200 full screen spanned over 3x24inch eyefinity display.

I did contact blizzard support and they said eyefinity will not be supported (same as SC2).
