Can I run 3x 9800GX2's on a tx750w corsair?

Or am I going to have a box shooting flames out the back?

Good God!!!!

I don't know man.... but that is a scary thought right there:eek:

If you do wind up with a blazing boxen, I expect pics;)

Beers and tamales man, Fold On!!

I have a kill-o-watt ordered, but I just wanted to know what you all thought.

The box is on a old intel bad axe board with a E2140 at the heart of it...... nothing in it besides the basics and well.... a bunch of GPUs

I'd go with at least a 1kW just to be on the safe side. Me thinks the 750 would be near maxed out depending on load.

The TX750 should be fine with 3 GX2s. Power usage will probably be around 600-650W at the most.

Your looking at 100 watts from the wall per 9800 GPU core.
So 3x 9800GX2's = 6x GPU cores = 600 watts from the wall without any other hardware attached.
Depending on the efficiency of the PSU, thats around 500 Watts from the unit.
Add other hardware and you'll br loading the PSU to around 600 watts.
That around 80% max load on the PSU.
A bit high for comfort.

I'd aim for a 1-1.2 kW PSU as well.
That will load it around the 50-60% mark for max efficiency.

Luck .......... :D

I ran 3x 9800gx2's on HX620

The only thing limiting me was the single core CPU;)

ROC

HX620 = teh Chuck Norris of Power Supplies. I know cause I have one. It kicked my old power supply's ass!

Gonna be reaaaaal toasty in there though :) What case are you using? Might want to think about pointing the 120mm fan on the PSU down so it vents outside.

how much does a single GX2 require?

could i run it with a GX2 and 2 9600GSO's from a 600W PSU?

Well I got my Kill-O-Watt in and it says that the "Uber Boxen" as some of you call it (even though tiger has a boxen with 4 GX2's) Only pulls 440 watts at the wall. Plenty of headroom for a third card :D

I have a Corsair 750 running 3 x 4850's & AMD 9350e Quad Core.
It is only pulling 340 Watts from the wall at full load.
Going to turn on my 4th 4850 this weekend.

The trick is to have a lower power CPU.

An overclocked Q6600 or simiar can pull at lot of power if that vcore is really high.

I'm going to check what the wattage is with the new WU, My guess is it is still under 500.

The 3rd card should show up today. It will make up for the points drop.... I'll be treading watter for the most part :p

And Evil: the proc is a E2140 stock. there is enough heat in that case ;)
