3x 120hz Eyefinity Setup advice

Hey

Was wanting some advice on a 3x horizontal monitor setup. Using 120hz monitors.

Specs:
3x benq XL2420t
2600k
AMD 6990
8gb ram
1000w corsair PSU

So I was wondering will i need to upgrade anything on my PC to be able to run the 3 monitors. Was mainly to play BF3 in 2D. And fps games.

Also is this the correct DP adaptors to get or should i be getting something different?

You would need "active" displayport. Best price I could find on ebay is about $55. I think those ones are rated at 270mhz since 330mhz adapters run about $100.

120hz requires dual link dvi bandwidth, hence why the active adapters are needed

You would need Active Mini DP to Dual link DVI, pretty expensive. I have 2 and I'll give you a better deal than $50 each. PM me if interested. I have nothing but positive heatware.

I'm curious as to why you would need the adapter though. The BenQ monitors support DisplayPort 1.2 as does your card.

The 6990 is a beast, but I doubt it will be enough to power BF3 with HQ eye candy at a reasonable FPS.

yeah i understand im going to have to lower my graphics settings .. is there any card out now that would handle it? from the 7 series? or an nvidia card?

If your monitor supports 120hz through display port then you should only need a cable from mini dp to dp AFAIK. Many 120hz monitors support only through dual link dvi (mine's only do through DL DVI)

I double checked just for good measure, it depends on which card.

GTX 680 you would use 2 DVI and 1 display port. (it has dual dual-DVI and a full size displayport).
The 7970 you would use 1 DVI (the second is single link on most if not all of them) and 2 mini displayport's (you would need adapters as the XL2420T uses full size displayport).

The XL2420T supports 120hz on DL-DVI or DP, but not HDMI.

Viewing angles from my personal usage tell me this monitor would be perfectly fine for Surround/Eyefinity. I can't imagine placing your monitor to the point of which the angle becomes an issue.

So I know mine is a older video card, does that mean the mini DP > DP cable would or wouldn't work. by the sounds of it i need an adapter still ?

DP and mini DP are the same exact thing, just in a different size, you will at some point need an "adapter" to change from DP to mini DP. you dont need an active or passive displayport adapter though.

I have a few mini DP to DPs I could send you for a few bucks

You need to find out if your monitors only supports 120hz through the dual link dvi outputs. If this is the case then you need active mini dp to dual link dvi adapters. If you can do 120hz through the dp outputs you need mini dp to dp cables.
