On the scale of rackmount servers it is quite tame in terms of noise level. Compared to a desktop machine it is certainly on the noisier side. That being said, this chassis takes standard 80mm 4-pin PWM fans, and the AMD G34 cpu heat sink mount is compatible with AM3 heatsinks. With a little bit of modding this could be turned into a fairly quiet machine. There are some youtube videos out there on modding supermicro chassis to near silent levels.
