3rd Video Card?

Hey All,

I have 2 570's SLI'd in my rig. I also have a 460 that I was thinking about using as a dedicated PhysX card. Could or Should I? Pro's? Cons?

Antec 300 Case
P8z77-V Pro Motherboard
Intel i7-3770K 3.5 stock
8gb's Patriot Sector 5 ram
2 Evga 570 GTX's SLI'd
1000w Power Supply

The Z77 chipset doesn't have enough lanes to fully utilize 3 cards. However, you stated that you plan to use the GTX460 purely for PhyX, which might be ok.

Question: what resolution do you game at with 2x GTX570s. If the resolution is 1080p, your current setup might have enough horsepower to run PhyX without an added 460.

Yup it would just be for PhysX and the resolution is for my 570's will be a main 27" monitor with 1920x1080 and a secondary 22" with a 1680x1050.

I didn't want to add too many parts to my question, but using a "PSU Calculator" it's saying I need 947w at 80-90% load... I have a 1000w power supply so would that be pushing it and how accurate are the PSU calculators? It basically asked for every option I had. Seemed thorough.

PSU calculators are sometimes very inaccurate.

What 1000W PSU do you have?

PSU calculators are a (bad) joke. You're looking at around 750w at the wall. Just make sure you have the power on the 12V rail(s).
 
Rosewill RBR1000-m... Had to save a little money here.

Buying lower power and higher quality is usually a lot better than buying high power with low quality when it comes to power supplies.

If you can't afford to buy a proper quality power supply to power your system, then you shouldn't have that strong of a system.
