I bought a 3rd party battery for my Digi Rebel last night at Best Buy and it drained my other battery when I put it in with the Canon battery (I have the battery grip). I didn't leave the camera on, I put the battery inside this morning, turned it on to see if it was ok, and put it in my bag. By the time I got to Riverside to shoot a wedding (1 hour later), it was dead. The cam has an auto-off feature, but the switch was in the off position.
What I want to know is if this is common when you mix generic with regular batteries? Should I have kept it out till I was ready to shoot?
I shot with a Canon XL1 and it said there was no tape inside when there was a generic battery. Is this something Canon does on purpose?
