I have been looking for some intel scores of 3dmark05 but all I can seem to find is massive ppl and AMD. Can anyone post their combos and scores with their intel setup. I am debating pentium D 830 and athlon 64 for games. thanks
 
I hope this wouldn't be considered "thread craping" but if your "considering" a gaming platform, like you said in your post, GET AN AMD for cryin out loud :D . I cant help you with an INTEL 3Dmark05 score, but my SLi 7800GT's w/ an FX57 got 13275.

Well a 830 is comparable to a 2800+ A64 in games , more than enough even for tomorrow's hot titles....
 
yeah, i mean, if you want the best performance, go with AMD. i game with a p4 3.2GHz, and of course, my 3dmark05 scores are low as hell compared to the 6600GT+ AMD 64 owners, but i can still play all the new games, i base it on gpu limit.

p4 @ stock 3GHz got some unknown score but when i upped it via software OC'er to 3.2GHz, i got 8 more points. lol
 
how would an athlon 64x2 and 2 7800's do? IM set with going with a duel core either the pentium d or athlong 64x2
 
for a gaming rig? an 830 isn't what you want.. its dual core WON'T help really in any games and its low clocks will hold you back (unless you get a decent OC'r).

You'd do better with a higher clocked 600 series... (like the 660, 670) or get a 630 and OC the shit out of it.

but truthfully.... AMD beats Intel in gaming :( Though I'm still an Intel fan b/c of stability.

I've got around 5300 with my rig, it's a laptop so it's based on the Pentium M, but it's still intel.
 
My 820 with a plain 6600 got me 3121 marks. Weak, yes- mostly due to the video card. But, having upgraded from a 550 on a intel 915P board to the D820 on the 945P board (same video) upped my score from 2600. The increase can be attributed to higher memory bandwidth and a better chipset. Dual core- not so much.

Just get an AMD for gaming. If you do any research at all, every single review is going to tell you the exact same thing. You won't be disappointed.
 
3dmark05 score of 8000, with p4 630 running @ 3.84g & XFX 7800GTX running @ 529/1.35... not too shabby! :)
 
Around the scores I get. Look at an AMD with a 7800GTX, they still beat Intel, that's a biased program.
 
I don't think that 3DMark05 is biased. From the gobs of reviews I've seen, not only are AMD scores higher in 3DMark, but framerates are also higher for all the popular games tested- like Doom3, Quake4, HL2, Fear, etc. I would conclude that for gaming, an AMD is going to be the best choice- $ for $, core for core, watt for watt.

If you're not a real gamer like me, who plays Halo online and occasionally Doom3, an Intel is just fine. Anything over 30fps and I'm happy. Since the Intel dualcores are currently cheaper than AMD's, an 830 may be a better choice for a multitasking-heavy user. All depends on how much gaming you will do.

I completely agree with that, as I'm exactly the same way. I'm NOT a heavy gamer, and while AMD is by far the better choice for gaming, it's not like a newer Intel setup isn't gonna be able to muster 60fps in any current games, it'll just be in the 60-80fps range instead of clearing 100fps. To some people that matters and to some it doesn't. For the little amount of gaming I do, it doesn't matter, an overclocking 6xx series P4 is still gonna easily put out 60fps + in today's games just like AMD can...but for those people that are gonna be cranking the resolution/AA/AF and who need all the FPS they can get, AMD is probly still the better buy.

Normally I'd say just buy the AMD, but it really does depend on a bunch of variables. Hell, the only reason my next rig is gonna most likely be an Intel one is because it's gonna be a shuttle, and I do NOT want a "P" series chasis, and the only "G5" chasis (the one I love) in the AMD flavor is the SN95...which leaves me with the aging nF3 chipset. At least with an Intel shuttle I can go with the SB83G5, and when the money allows I can upgrade it and have a P4 650 at around 4GHz, paired up with a 7800GT(X) and 2GB of PC4000 Mushkin...not to shabby IMO.

Edit: I suppose an alternative to my above scenario would be the ST20G5 with an X2 3800+...I'll have to double check on how "OC friendly" that model has been so far and we'll see...I can't stand the lack of multitasking capablilies of most A64's, but if I can get the ST20G5 up and running with the 3800+ X2 and have SOME level of overclocking available to me I will...we'll see.

7601 with the video card clocked at 474/1.1, I haven't tried it since i've gotten higher cpu and gpu clocks.
 
6233 -- setup in sig.

I overclocked my 3.0E to only 3.15 GHz and got a 300 point jump to 6530 :eek:
But it was screwing up my memory timings and 3dMark2005 was the only program where I noticed much of a difference, so it's back at stock settings for now.

All inside an Antec Aria with original 300 watt powersupply and plenty of adaptor cables.

Consumes right around 200 watts at load in 3Dgames (burner inactive) at the wall outlet as measured by an APC Back-ups HS.

PCI-E/SATA interface is holding overclock back.
 
ZenOps, not bad at all...especially for a Cellery...I love how capable those Celeron D's are in terms of overclocking. Even if it does take a massive overclock to compensate for the natural handicap that all Celerons are hindered by...it's still cool to see the ridiculously high clock speeds coming out of them.
 
I got 7048 with a PentD820, 2x1GB PQI Turbo DDR2 667 and a evga 7800gt @ 460/1100.
 
3dmark05 isn't the greatest way to tell the difference between AMD/Intel. It's more of a graphics card benchmark and the CPU doesn't play as big a role in the total score as a real world game would.
