3DMark06 not working with HD 4850...

So I don't usually run these types of benchmarks but I thought I would give it a whirl.

I installed the latest version and installed the Futuremark February hot fix and 3DMark06 does not run. After installing I run program and get the following error: "IDirect3D9::GetDeviceCaps failed: Not available (D3DERR_NOTAVAILABLE)"

I'm running Vista 64 bit Ultimate. I'm using the ATI hotfix drivers. I had a 6800 GTS in the system before the 4850 but I did not have 3DMark06 installed.

Any ideas?
 
Update DirectX. Also, have you installed Vista SP1 ?
 
Update Direct X? I was not aware there was an update to Direct X 10. I guess I could be getting the error because I do not have Direct X 9 installed...

Yes, I have SP1 installed.

The update to DX10 is in Vista's SP1 actually. What I meant by update DirectX, was that re-installing/updating the DX libraries, might do the trick, since something might've been not installed correctly.

Can you run DX games without problems ?

I have just updated my machine with a clean install and I only have Crysis installed which is running great.

How does DX10 work with DX9 games? Can DX10 play DX9 games? I wonder if I have to install DX9....

Since you did a clean install, you already updated/re-installed the DX libraries, so no need for anything else.

Yes, you can play DX9 games in a DX10 ready system and you don't need to install anything else.

You should run "dxdiag" for diagnostics and see if there are any problems. If you don't have problems running any DX game and the diagnostics showed no problems, it probably is just a problem with drivers or 3D Mark itself.
 
I had that problem too... but I changed too many things at once to narrow down what fixed it :( Definetly try cleaning and reinstalling the 4850/4870 hotfix drivers and updating DX10 though.
 
Somethings not loaded correctly on your system. I'm running Vista Ultimate 64 with 2 - 4850's crossfired & the hotfix drivers. No problems at all running 3DMark06.

What's the Futuremark February Hotfix you installed ? If you've got the latest version of 3DMark06 wouldn't it have any necessary updates already integrated in ? After I clean-installed Vista & the ATI drivers I just re-downloaded 3DMark06 & installed. Didn't put any hotfix in. Maybe that's what's killing your system.
