Well it definitly increase my gt scores by 800 its doing 5200

What vid clock are you running? What mobo chipset? My cpu is higher than yours and I should be getting say 5000 even accounting for losses running a 754 singe channel chipset...

WTF, I am starting to think something is wrong with my card...

Check what programs are running in the background, mine's pretty much a clean install other then active sync for my PDA nothing else is really there. Holy shit this driver fixes a bug I had with my engine :) with aa and af on max the old drivers crashed it lol hopefully they are good drivers!

AH ha much nicer :) Looks like the 66.70's gave a boost all round on three tests btw. Over clocking is a bit better with them too, before I couldn't go past 450 on my ultra got it up to 465 :D

OH it gets better my cards temps have droped ~2c at load and idle too dman there anying these drivers CANT DO :D

not to offend anyone, but who cares about 3dmark05. It's just some benchmark and shows nothing about the cards actual performance in real games.

Of course we dont' really care about it either ;) just havin fun hehe

3DMark for me is = to takeing your car the dragstrip knowing how fast you can run the 1/4 mile is cool and fun but it doenst do you any thing for day to day driving ^^

From what I have read so far the GF4 cards will not run '05...
it says you NEED PS2.0 as far as I know... though I haven't tried
it yet, feel free to let me know if im just flapping hot air here..
lol ...

The whole nVidia can't do PS 2.0 but must instead revert to
a less precise, but faster 1.4 is another issue which most
of the major and hardcore nVidia ass kissers seem to forget.

Not griping about it at all, as I love to hear both ATI and
nVidia !!!!!!s argue. It gets so ridiculous sometimes, it
is downright hilarious.

****************************************************

As far as the Beta drivers and how they affect games,...
a coupla' buddies of mine had different results.
Both have identical cards, x800Pro's...and roughly the same
cpu/mobo/memory...

One got corruption in some of the textures in FarCry, which
he said he couldn't find a reasonable quick fix for.

My other buddy, Mike said he saw a gain in FarCry of on
average, 5.7 fps...his Doom3 play went up as well...he says
"roughly 6-7 frames."

No doubt scores, drivers, what company is on top, and who will still be married
or have a girlfreind will all change within the coming weeks.

Personally, I haven't tried the Beta's on my now "obsolete"
BBA 9800XT. I did run 3DMark05 using the standard 4.9 Cats.
Ran at stock clocks, after a fresh reboot, and with all
10 of my 80mm fans (from 35CFM to 90CFM Vantec tornadoes),
and my house A/C at a chilly 64 degrees Farenheit.

Link to my score here:
2874 3DMark05 BBA 9800XT

Haven't made it throught this entire topic yet...got page 14 or
so and wanted to make my OCP rookie comment and then jet.

Carry on... ;)

I re-ran w/build 100 (gonna try with 110 some time), after uninstalling some things, defragging, and cleaning up C:\, and i got 2459 3DMarks, and 4048 CPU Score w/my setup.

the free version? you're a brave man to rely on AVG - IF it is the free one. we had that at our office for a year or so and i say that program wouldn't recognize a virus if you filled the entire harddisk with it. if do you need a free one you might try this one here: http://www.free-av.de/ or .com for the english version. ugliest UI of the world award 2004, but quite good.

i have a quick question, i havent read the entire thread since i last posted so i dont know if this was answered all ready. i got a few pm's from people recommending that i upgrade my 61.77's to the 66.70's for a higher 3dmark05 score. i am just wondering what the general consensus is from people if the 66.70's offer any increased performance in games as well?

Yes. A few FPS in D3. A good deal in FC. Haven't really tested anything else. Hell, nothing else really tests my system.

3dmark 2005 patch v110 and nvidia 66.81's were just released! damnit it and i have work in 20 minutes, noooo!

yea im going to give the 66.81's a shot to day at some point and i tryed the patch for 3dmark lost a few points but not much ~50 meh that was with the 66.70's ill and ya i get ~15 more FPS in CS:S 10 more in D3 and Farcry is smother at 4Xaa and 8Xaf 1280x1024 so the 66.70 are pretty good

i did find some odd artfacting in CS:S tonight on 66.70's with AA o @ 4x i can get some screen shots if some one can host them for me

Weird you say that because I have been using it for well over a year with no infections. I update daily (auto setting), I disable file and printer sharing on my net connection, I run a firewall, and I have not been compromised one time. You say this new one is better?

Wow, someone bashing AVG, there really is all kinds of stupid in here. You know, I have someones computer in here right now, and she had norton on it. Updated and everything. Her computer ran like shit, I uninstalled norton, installed AVG, and AVG found 12 virii. This is not the only case. I fix all my friends computers when they come down for breaks from college. If they didn't have AVG installed, they had updards of 5 virii or more.

educated answer - you did your best to prove you're right. i didn't want to get this too far off-topic so i sent theRapture a PM clearifying my point:

"i used to work as a network admin at UNI; that beeing said we had no money for commercial virus protection and i looked around the web for a free solution: AVG was the one i found. as the computers were more or less public, everybody used to do the stuff on them you wouldn't do on yours: download/install warez, surf weired porn-sites and such. now IF there was a a virus on one of the systems i would always notice not through AVG, but through ppl getting data off these public PCs, copy them onto their own machines and have norton/mcafee run rampart detecting virusses. happend three or four times until i was so tired of having to download the trial version of norton, clean the comp und install AVG again, so i went looking again.

now we have the other one up and running for almost a year or so and nothing happened so far - mind you it uses more resources though... ok, as the environment was more or less pure UNI-anarchy your system seems to be safe with a decently set up firewall etc., i just thought i'd mention...

hope that helped - you might just give the otherone a try - the UI is very 80s ;)
cheers,
j"

so, if you've made good experiences with AVG - fine, yet, some ppl may think differently and have made different experiences - and that does *not* mean they are stupid, mr. clever. ah yeah, almost forgot: just because someone has viruses on his norton/mcafee protected computer doesn't mean the scanner doesn't work...

Yeah, their scanner works flawlessly, letting virii past. Thats exactly what I would expect for a virus scanning utility that costs money. WRONG. Why would anyone pay for a scanner that misses a virus that a free scanner would catch?

FYI, ive tried most virus detection programs out there, including those mentioned in this thread, so I do know what im talking about. You could have different results, but of the hundreds of machines I've worked on, AVG has worked the best.

ah well, i'm wrong again. i guess i'm out of luck then. look, i tried to give therapture advice based on my opinion - end of story. i stated multiple times it is just my personal experience, not a "bashing" of AVG or any prooven 'review'. let's NOT post anymore off-topic stuff here - PM me if you want, ok?

as anyone else on the planet.

ah yeah, one more thing:
Q. What is the plural of virus?
A. Viruses.

It is not viri, or (which is worse) virii. True, the word comes directly from Latin, but not all Latin words ending in -us have -i as their plural. Besides, viri is the Latin word for 'men' (plural of vir, man, the root the English virile). There is in fact no written attestation of a Latin plural of virus.

If you would like to pursue the subject further, see the excellent article "What's the Plural of 'Virus'?". If you have some knowledge of linguistics and Latin, you might be interested in the morphological analysis of the word from the Perseus Project.

Well you're agruing semantics, guess you can't find anything else of mine to attack. Boy what a great conversation

Enjoy your "virii" infested machines, just wanted to let you know having AVG on a computer is not a mistake.

Despite improper use of Latin, FingerSlut is correct, AVG does kick butt. I deleted Norton from my system and went with AVG after a virus infected my machine to which Norton proved ineffective. I also recommend SpywareBlaster and CWShedder as added protecting from the bad stuff.

Oh and not to completely ignore the 3DMark05 topic, here's my score running the 61.77 drivers. This is one machine crushing benchmark.

http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm05=80737

well, ran with build 110,

no real change, ~2500 3dmarks, ~4000 cpu marks. waiting for cat4.10 =]

got 4735 with xp2500 n 6800nu. using stock hsf again n weather is hot so only oc 220x11, 400/920 but going for 5k soon with more oc when weather cools down. (n new hsf)

first i'll look at those "miracle" drivers to see what they do to 3dmark .. if early/mid next week no new drivers are out i'll softmod them

Hey W1z, did you forget about something? Don't worry about it...I used Omega's patched ati2mtag.sys file from his latest version of the Beta. One of these days I'll get around to hardmodding so I won't have to wait for you guys. Thanks anyways. Cheers.
