Quick qustion im trying to install 3d mark 06 with vista and i have dx10 installed rightnow, its telling me it needs to install portions of dx9 should i let it ?

Install DX from here. There's a November Update. These updates are cumulative, so it includes all prior DX updates.

so just go ahead and install the whole dx9?

You don't "install DX9".

You install the DirectX runtime libraries which include all updates for DX9 and DX10.

Install from the Microsoft dxsetup file I posted, as it is inherently more up to date than something that was released over a year ago.

The DXSetup will include all the updates 3dmark wants to install plus more.

As a side note, even after updating with DXsetup, 3dmark may do the dumb thing and not detect if you have the proper runtime already installed.. it may just force you to install it anyway.

In this case it's only overwriting files you already have with the same files, so it's not going to mess up your already up to date DirectX. You can also cancel out of the built-in DX install, if you have already updated via the DXSetup file I posted.
