I have never been much of a gamer but I just bought a new 23" LCD and I figured it would be a crying shame not to play some games on it so I figured I would buy myself a good graphics card to go along with it.

I picked up a BFG 6800 OC from best buy, unlocked the pipes and overclocked it: this gives me a score of about ~9000 without artifacts etc. However, during the mother nature test, the part where the camera raises up from the water, I start chugging along at about 17 FPS for a few seconds. Now I don't have a lot of experience with graphics cards but I had kind of figured that I would get better perfromance?

I was interested what kind of performance everyone else was getting on this section and what kind of cards they are running and what kind of overall scores they were getting in comparison to the frame rates at that part.

prolly cpu bottlenecked, plus its supposed to run slow as possible, they poorly coded it so it becomes very very very intensive

maybe your card throttled itself, try lowering the clocks a bit and rerunning it.

Hopefully its a CPU issue. I am running this card on my friends 1800XP right now, just waiting on the all the parts for my new dual opteron 244, and waiting as well for the the 3200 XP Barton cpu for the other box.

I tried pushing my card further but anything beyond 350 core and 770 memeory doesn't seem to affect my score until I raise it *so* much that I get artifacts. Go figure.

Hopefully its CPU. It was choking on the virgin run as well.

Yea, when I first built my system I OC the SPU and it was cutting my GPU preformance in half. Put the CPU down to stockspeeds and raised them back to a new OC later an never had the problem again. took me forever to figure out though.

Not so much poorly coded as it is 'poorly' modeled.
When the camera comes out of the water, you see a lot of grass and trees, which means incredible amounts of triangles, and overdraw.
It starts picking up speed when you advance, as more and more objects fall outside the viewport.

my benchmark score is 11.486 in 3d mark 03.
my card is a bfg 6800gt stock setings nothing is over clocked
i have a amd 64 3200+
with a gig of ram
