3dfx Voodoo5 5500

On Ebay, between $150 and $220 for a AGP model is typical for the Voodoo 5 5500. PCI version usually fetches $300+ since it is more universal and can be used in a wide variety of systems, not requiring the universal AGP slot.

If you wait around for a deal and/or don't shop on Ebay, you can usually pick up an AGP version of the 5500 for under $120. If you find a broken one and repair it, you can get it for even less. You can still find all the discrete components to repair them quite easily. A lot of people try to remove the fan and heatsink and break the BGA solder connections, so it is a simple repair to remove that chip, clean up the pads, then resolder it. All you need is a hot air pencil. If you need a brand new VSA 100 chip, they are less than $20. (solder balls already on them since they are new old stock from the factory)

Then you can make an awesome retro gaming box:

erek you ever go to etate sales or scrapping places looking for old stuff like this. I've found unfortunately it's impossible because most estates will just list as "misc computers" because generally they are worth nothing. You almost gotta spend way too much time to find anything cool.

Pretty sure I sold my 5500 AGP back in..... 2001? 2002? For like $200. These things really hold their value, crazy.

That's a nice mod, I remember those old Shuttle SFF cases. Neat looking but a PITA to keep cool. I like how that one just has an open screen on one side.
