3Dc Question?

Mar 2, 2003
The 3Dc part of the new X800 line from the looks of it looks very intresting>From first looks it promises to up the already amazing IQ of the Radeon batch of cards and some performance increases.
I was wondering if anyone has somemore Info on this new tech as ATI and most people have been pretty quite about it.But it looks every bit as Intresting as SM3?

All i can find on it is from the (Shudders :D )Inquirer http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=15487
just about every launch review out there had sections on 3Dc, including ours: http://www.hardocp.com/article.html?art=NjEwLDU= Starts on that page and continues onto the next

it is basically a better compression scheme for normal maps, which regular DXTC5 has trouble with, with better compression of the normal maps either you will get a performance boost or you can take this performance boost and put in higher res normals allowing better IQ for the same cost

it is easy to implement for developers, only one instruction required in the pixel shader

there is rumor that 3Dc will be the standard normal compression scheme in DX10 for Longhorn
