I want to get into 3D Modelling and my current system is killing me with constant crashes and such (doesn't like 3DS :() and I'm really lost on the video cards. Nobody ever talks about these cards so I need some [H] input :) I was looking at the Matrox P650 but it seems a bit, old. The P750 looks nice and I don't mind stretching my budget a little bit for a much better card but I'm not sure if it's that great either (i r nub). Does anyone have any past experience with Matrox? What about "normal" gaming cards, are there any that would fit the bill better in my price range than a cad card?
I'm looking for something under 300$ canadian (230$USD).

Thank you very much.

Oh ya, single crt if you're wondering.

Normal gaming cards are fine. I personally would use an ATi FireGL or even better for Max is a Quadro series card. I am not sure if the Quadro 4000's are out yet. But that is the card to have for max. Matrox's 3D performance even in 3DS Max is laughable at best.

If you have to a 6800GT or X800Pro is also pretty good for max. I run an ATi Radeon X800Pro, and it runs 3DS Max 6.1 really well.
