3D Mark Vantage benchmark, too low??

with system in sig i ran 3d mark vantage with the following results:
3D mark: P7208
CPU: 8011
GPU: 6975

the reason i ask is that when i compare to fastest system online there is a huge difference, he had 36,598 total 3D marks, and 29,256 for CPU.

granted he/or she has 3 GX280's, so that would account for a much higher GPU score (but that much higher?), but the cpu is listed as running at 3.2G, doesn't specify which cpu though. so it seems like my scores should be a lot higher, also, in the compared to similar systems graph i was at the bottom, the highest being 13,016, that's still almost double.

I'm running my E8400 at 4G, gpu is stock, i don't see what could be different except maybe some gpu oc'ing, but that would be minimal i think. Why am i not getting higher scores?

I used that bench for the first time on saturday to compare the system in the sig. No optimizations at all, I was comparing Vista x64 to win 7. The vista system had a mild o-clock on the gpu using the utility in the driver, 40 mhz on the gpu,80 mhz on the mem. I didn't have a utility for win7, so the clocks are the stock on the v.card. Here's what I scored.

Win7
3dm=9991
cpu=18033
gs=8698

Vista x64
3dm=10446
cpu=18113
gs=9154

So it seems that benchmark still depends heavily on the Graphics system. I thought the top system was a i7 920 at over 4G, if I remember correctly....

I don't trust futremark scores any more. It seems as if they intentionally put you in the low end when you compare your system to other similar systems. I had your same questions some time ago, but now I know it is not accurate at all.

Can you try Passmark and tell me how much you do you score? I like this test better.
