Ok, my system specs are as follows

MSI K7N2-delta L motherboard
amd 2500@2.1ghz
512 OCZ Platinum Performace ram
MSI Nvidia Geforce 5200 FX 128mb

those are the performace parts. For these parts, i would htink i would get alittle higher score, or is this score not bad? I dont think it is good. What could i change to make my comp perform alittle better. I have another 512 stick of ram on the way. The only thing i think could be holding me back is my AGP card.

holy shit not even 5fps on trolls lair
Think its time to get a new video card

My crappy computer with budget parts gets 6500, LOL

does that thing only test the agp card or is it my equipment also, becuase i have a amd 2500@3200 with OCZ Platinum pc3200 ram.

well he might also have a/f and a/a jacked up. need to disable those (if you have them enabled). off with vsync too. load your nforce2 drivers again and dx9. should help.

I would recommend upgrading your proc and video card...Ive been seeing some great deals on Athlon Xps these days and the 9800Pro, is also a good deal, IMO

heck yeah. great deals out here to be had for 9800's now that the new cards are out.

3DMark03 is mainly for GPU that explains you need a faster Graphic card...you dont need to upgrade anything else..........

i was going to say as for my cpu, nope. ill keep this one for now but thanks for the advice. I think the 3200 is the fastest socket A cpu out there. (the 3400 comes in mind, hmm) I dont want a 9800 that is shit. they got so many off brands and SE's out there its pointless. Somone show me a good solid 9600pro-9800pro. what is a/a and a/f also?

So you are going to upgrade because you don't like the 3dmark scores?
'aa' is antialiasing.. 'af' is anisotropic filtering.. You are going to upgrade no know what those are? hmm.. are what are you using this computer for? Now test it with that. Unless you are using it to run 3dmark all the time, it won't help you much.

Get a New Graphics card maybe a 9800Pro or 5700Ultra.

Woah you still use Kazaa and have a AOL toolbar in IE :p

well for one, i want to make sure that my computer is well rounded. and i dont really mess with a/a and a/f becuase i dont know what they do in depth. i leave vsync on becuase it seems to work better than vsync off. Paragon, if you built your own computer, which u probly did, do you want 1 part of your computer falling behind in specs with the rest? i woudlnt think so.

i didnt even notice i had those toolbars untill you seen them, i dont really use them. :p . Alos kazza lite has performed for me quite well so im really happy with it. Ive heard of being able to download from mIRC, but does anyone know which channels to goto, and what other things could i use to download like kazza lite, but seems to be better than kazza lite?

im being dead serious when I say that could be lowering his scores. AOL eats up a crapload of memory all the damn time and that could give him a bad score

that being said the 5200 is a crappy card, but dont upgrade just because of the score, play some games, youll see how bad it really is. 9800SE's that mod to Pro are going pretty cheaply now, even if you have a bad stroke of luck and get one that wont mod right to Pro itll still kick the crap out of the 5200

the reason i initially mentioned a/a and a/f is because by default when you first install a video cards drivers usually they are set to defaults which will give you a lower score because it doesn't disable those things as it should be for the 3dmark test alone. you have to manually disable them. that said, like an above poster i also know some about a/a and a/f, and depending on the specific game and how it uses the rendering of the video adapter i turn those things back on at times if the game itself does not have in game menu settings that i can use to manipulate them (or not). some prefer to never use a/a and a/f with anything which is fine. i got my ati 9800 pro for the reason to be able to use those things. also, this person (original poster-thread starter) does not necessarily need a new video adapter if games run ok. score should be tad higher but what really matters is how the games look to you and how playable they are for you without too much eye strain - getting anough frames to make it ok.

i have this card and it runs games fine ut2k4, call of duty, nothing spectacular but it does run fine, but it does get absolutely hammered in 3dmark. there is pretty much no way u can fix that score unless u get a new card i upgraded and it does make a significant difference with games and will be very noticeable especially with aa/af enabled. to show u had bad the 5200 scores goto the vga charts part3 on tomshardware and look up the 5200 score its the last of the bunch.

once the next gen of games are out and you can only get 10-15 fps at 1024x768 then it's time to sell the card. older games (even nolf/nolf2) should be fine - in fact the 5200 should do just fine with the vast majority of games (slighly older) with res at no more than 1024x768.

I would definitely get a new video card. Look for one that comes with Mavis Beacom Typing Tutor bundled in box. :D

well, after building this pc. and my pc is not much compared to some of the [H]'ers. But its my first and its got some power to it. If i get a new vid card. I would like a good saphire or BBA radeon 9600 pro or xt. over a cheap 9800. does this make sense to do that? Also i still have the origional box in flawless condition. manuals, cd's, and everything it came with. I can just sell the card to somone who wants it. If it comes down to it.

(holy monkey****, i used the word BBA, oh yea. im an offical [H]'er. rofl :p )

that doesn't make sense at all, a cheap 9800pro not se, se is a waste, or a cheap 9800np modded to a pro is the way to go. a 9600xt is a step below a 9800 and only a minimal dollar difference better with the pro. and the 5200 u can probably sell for like 50 or 40 or something.

Going back on the topic....

I got a similar rig, in sig, but the 5200 really holds me back, as well as the ram.
Havent done 2k3 test yet, but heres my 2k1
I'm thinking of getting an x800pro, dont want to spend $ on a card thats 3 times less powerful than another one just twice the price or less...
So just get a new card, dont go for 9600xt, 9800 just 40 bucks more though if you're going that low.

less powerful are u nuts? the x800pro is awesome are u trying to compare this to a 6800u or something cause they will still be on the same level anyways. granted a 9800 is cheaper then a x800 but the 800 will give u great improvement in many areas and will coast through any game on the market at the max. settings.

i had an old bx system with a celeron @ 1.6 with a geforce fx 5600 ultra that scroed a 7900 in 3dmark 01 and a 2500 in 3dmark03. you really should get a new video card.

i did. i have that old mavis typing tutorial (actually my fiance's') sitting on a cd rack. i got a chuckle out of it. :)

SportyGuy, my point was that upgrading for reason of a benchmark is no real reason at all. If you play games and they aren't playing well on the card you have, then that is a real reason to upgrade, yet ya inform us not of that. I have built nice systems with crap videocards just because they are not being used for games. I build to suit. Not going to have a 9800Pro in a computer made for surfing the web or photo editing.

Just posting about your 3dmarks gives me the feeling that it was all you were worried about. No mention about games or anything.
Anyhoo.. we all have our bench stages. I stopped using things like 3dmark and just rely on real application performance.

http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20031229/index.html [mind that they are probably older drivers they are testing with, etc.]
That's probably going to be the most help to you.. although, no 3dmark..
Anyhoo.. enjoy.

i use 3dmark 2001/03 and aquamark run w/p95 in the background before sending a performance system out. i use them for stability markers not really score indicators per say.

at least back when i had my 5200 ultra back a long time ago i could do 2000 on it :D lol
