Okay so i overclocked my 7950 to 1015|1350, i got a score of 6180. I then increased my speeds to 1030|1450 and got 4448... This is weird isnt it? i put it back to 1015|1350 and got 4378... Does anyone know whats going on? (btw these are all firestorm marks)

your memory overclock might be failing and GDDR5 retransmit is hurting performance. stick to your stock memory of 1250 mhz. keep overclocking core clocks in 25 mhz increments. you should get performance improvements without any artifacts, crashes or freezes. when the core overclock is unstable you can increase voltage . normally 1100 - 1150 mhz is quite easy on HD 7950.
 
You're using a 3570? You should be getting higher than 6180. Even not OC you should be getting higher.
 
Does your core clock go any higher. 1030 is not a huge OC on the core, something like 1150 and you'll see your scores improve quite a bit.

For reference at 1175/1650 I get about 8300 graphics score.
 
i tried, can't get past 1030. it freezes up. i havn't increased voltage though. dunno how to do that.
 
Use Saphire Trixx, if you've a Sapphire card.
It'll let you change GPU voltage.
 
Does this not come with an OC software, iTurbo?
Does it allow voltage tweaks.

You could also use MsiAfterburner.
 
ah thanx i didn't realize the software it came with allowed for voltage tweeks so i was doing it of of the CCC. Do i need to increase voltage to increase past 1030|1350 then?
 
Only touch the voltage when you're sure that you can go no further with the default voltage on the card.

Look around to see what the default voltage on your card is, mine being a Sapphire boost card has default voltage set at 1250mV, I've no clue what yours is.
Also check to see what kind of overclocks people are getting with your specific version of the card, that can give you some ballpark estimates to work with.

its wweird cause under extreme load (like furmark type thing) i only hit 70*C usually even less. so i would have thought i could get more out of it
 
Increase the power limit to +20 first if you haven't already. Do this BEFORE tweaking voltage.

Is your card the IceQ, IceQ Turbo or IceQ Boost?
 
i have a gigabyte 7950 that comes at 1000mhz gpu. Overclocking it has negative returns over about 1100gpu and 1400 memory. I ran at a variety of clocks on both the gpu and memory to find the 'sweet spot' for performance improvements. A lot of new overclockers don't realize this. Higher numbers don't always give you better performance. Some cards hit a wall internally at lower frequencies so try to find where the scaling stops. This can easily be done by only changing one of the variables at a time while keeping the other one at stock. You can modify the GPU up in 25mhz increments, until you start to see negative scaling in the benchmark scores. Then set the gpu to stock and start increasing memory until you see negative scaling. Then set both to your ideal numbers and see if you get an increase in performance over what either one of them did by themselves. This takes less than an hour and can be done while watching tv or something. Then you will have the best performance your rig can handle and no more questions about it.

I use heaven benchmark for this adjustment as i like to compare the score, min/max/avg frames being delivered each run. You will be very surprised at how they can change independently of each other during testing.
