Hi!

I am trying to benchmark my new X1800 XT with 3D Mark 05 and my score is 7900. I thought I would at least hit 8500 but I think the tests are being used with HDR and I cannot seem to disable it.

I set the PS to 2.0 in the settings but I still think I see the bright effects of HDR during the tests. This is the pro version, BTW.

Overclocking your CPU in 3dmark 05 gives a slim gain. 05 is mostly video card based so - overclock your video card to improve your score, not your CPU :)

The difference between a Venice 3000+ and a Venice 3800+ (600MHz faster) is 714 points, an increase of 15% over the base 4800 point score. CPU speed does have an effect on 3DMark05.

Your point proved me right...

600MHz faster = 714 points

714 points is nothing - I gained went from 10200 to 12400 by overclocking my X190XTX from stock to 690/800. 2,200 by overclocking the video kinda makes 700 points look like peanuts. Again, overclocking your CPU, unless you can OC by 600 - 1Ghz, just doesn't amount to much....

Not many people can get 600 Mhz OC. My Opteron 148 is 2.2 stock but runs 3.0 Ghz @ 1.44v.

Whats the point to even running a synthic benchmark and then disabling parts of it just to inflat your 3dmark score?

Well to the original poster - overclock your CPU and post your before and after results.

man please, my scores have went up more than that from overclocking my vid card and changing drivers, he's right, overclocking/upgrading a GPU will have a much bigger impact on 05 scores than the CPU

05 is like 95% GPU and 5% CPU as long as the CPU/system isnt bottlenecking the video card to begin with

06 is very much more CPU dependent because of the multithreading CPU tests

Your post made me chuckle. :p

You put down a 15% increase in score by CPU overclocking, but then brag about a 21% increase by video card overclocking.

15% = slim increase, but 21% = massive? LOL

To the Op, problem is with your Intel cpu. They simply do not score as high in 05 as Amd cpu's. Clocking it higher will help, but clocking the gpu and card ram will help more...

With his card, and that CPU the CPU is no doubt a bottlneck in 05, maybe not when it(05) was first released but it has become very cpu dependent

I seen a Pentium 4 3.4 hold a 7800GTX 512mb to 7500 instead of 9500

agreed, even my 3.8Ghz Prescott (1000Mhz bus speed overclocked) running a 1:1 at 250Mhz FSB was lagging behind the 2.6Ghz A64's and what not........thats when i got mad at Intel and switched :)

Hey, thanks for all the replies!

Unfortunately I cannot OC my CPU, and I cannot change it at this point either. So I have to live with it, at least I am getting the score I feel is right in 3Dmark06 (3946) http://service.futuremark.com/compare?3dm06=93197 with a little OC on my GPU.

Again, thanks for the help!

PS- No one knows if there is a way to disable bloom in 05? Because I do not remember these effects when I ran my X850 XT PE.

It's definately CPU that's bottle necking. I score VERY close to that with my 1800XL on default settings...

Your CPU's great, but unfortunately AMD CPUs score higher in '05 than Intel... they pretty much evened the score with '06, though, which is cool.
