3D Manipulation software for Nvidia or ATI?

Remember the NVIDIA Head Demo (Link Here) for the 8800?

My question is, can I use my 3d cards to do the same thing but with my own (actually a friend's head which is much prettier) head, using some special software?

Feel free to suggest close enough type software.

I that is exectly it. 3d model being rendered. Sorry for the n00b question, but what software is available to do that?

sethk, thanks for the links. I will see it it works for what I am looking for.

Basically, i want to digitize the heads of family members and render 3D versions of us, for future reference.

Why only 2D pictures right?
