I have two of these that I found in my garage, does anyone know if they are a smart switch or dummy switch? Or if they are even worth using, I am thinking of wiring my house this winter with Cat5 and will need a switch.
 
From what I remember, dummy switch, and probably 100BaseT, not Gigabit.

They work well if you don't care about gigabit speeds.
 
Dude, if it has the word HUB on it, bin them, not worth anything. If it is actually a switch then its age is likely to be rather limited.

Go buy a 16-24 port GbE SWITCH (not a HUB) for under a couple of hundred bucks and while at cabling, use CAT-6. Something tells me that your not into networking in anyway, may be best to get a pro to do the job.
