I jsut recently bought this modem from the FS/T forum. It was listed as a 56K modem, but all I can get out of it is 33.6 in XP.I google searched and searched on driverguide for a different driver but with no luck.Anyone have any thoughts where I could search next?

Is it recognized as a 56k modem? Have you been able to get >33.6 speeds on the line with other modems? Are you sure the POP you are dialing in to supports 56k(I assume just about all ISPs would support it now, but it's worth a check).

Its your phone line. Either internal lines or your line to the telco.

Other than plugging your 56k modem into the NID (grey box outside your house with a test port) you could remove all other phones from the wiring (unplug them) this includes fax machines, sattelite recievers, callerID boxes, etc etc. Basically you are fighting crappy wiring and you need to isolate it.

My old 56K ISA modem works fine on the line.I also queried the modem in diagnostics in XP and the top speed that was listed was 33000.
