3970X VS 4960X

I currently have a 3970X. Although I know the IB-E CPU is only up to 10% faster, I noticed that people have only been getting it to 4.6Ghz in reviews. I can currently get my 3970X to around 5.0Ghz on water. I have yet to see a 3970X vs 4960X OC comparison, or a multi-GPU comparison. Does anyone have any idea which would be faster if they were both on water? I know the difference is relatively small, but I have an opportunity to basically trade one for another and not lose a dime.

I just wish that there were an OC comparison of the two in order to determine if newer architecture (IB-E) or higher clock speed (SB-E) prevails in benchmarks. I guess based on currently available reviews, I can determine that the 0.4Ghz greater stock clock speed does not yield greater results. This means that if I got an IB-E chip to run at 4.6Ghz, it would edge out my 3970X at 5.0Ghz (in all likelihood). Is this correct?

With a 400MHz deficit, I don't think the i7-4960X would edge out your i7-3970X...to move to the i7-4960X for you would be pointless.

My $0.02...;)

TTL checked it at 4.6ghz against a 4.75ghz 3960X and it was evenly matched. Your chip is faster than the 4.6ghz 4960X, I would keep it. 1-5% average advantage at the same clock speed it too little to make up for a 400mhz gap, if the chip would even do 4.6 in the first place.

Ya I just saw that review a few minutes ago. Made the decision easy. Thanks!
