i have the 3960x came from 2600k, to make it short this is a warm chip, i like a 5ghz clock and the 3960x needs so much cooling that its noisy, and i HATE a noisy machine, the 2600k i had @ 5ghz and ran very cool, so im thinking the 2700k this time, dont get me wrong the 3960x is amazing but its just flat to warm for my liking, furthermore, all i do is basic computing burn a movie surf the web and a heavy game, which all these never use 6 cores, opinions?

I think now that you have the 3960... i would stick with it. You probably just spent well over $800-900 to get that setup... spend a few a few bucks and make your case silent, or go water cooling.

But, if you decided to go down to a K series, i5 2500k or 2700k would be what I would look at till the Ivy came out.

You spent that much on the chip go for water cooling like the poster above said. Stupid to go back to a 4 core now.

i have swiftech loop triple rad thats my point (noise) 3 fans or 6 if push pull, 2600k same frequency with a h70 turned down, i just watched a vid of 2700k @ 5.4 @ only 58c, thats technology, not a 6 core hog @ 5ghz and a rad everywjhere u look and airplane in fans, following me?

The 3900s have no future... aren't they going to release a better plataform later?!? I think that the 2700s have proven thenselves already.

just soo dang hott with the 130 watt, i was use to the 2600k 95 watt same 5ghz clock alot cooler

If you had no problem blowing money on a CPU you couldn't even use - Sure, why not. Why not buy a 2700k and blow even more money?

This. Make sure to drill a little hole in the 3960X so you can use it as a keychain. It's just too bad your $1000 chip @ 5ghz uses too much power. I feel so sorry for you :(

Lol do not freaking run 5 ghz if you don't like the heat. Secondly, as much as I hate to brunt, is there a reason why you chose 5ghz for burning a cd and watching you tube? Given its your right to buy whatever you want, why did you not think about your 1000 dollar purchase in advance?

I would run that chip @ stock clocks if your gonna use it to surf internet and play movies only. Also it sounds like your water loop is loud no mater what chip you run.

Your processor @ 5 ghz is pulling about 550 watts probably and your loop can probably cool way more than you think. Maybe get better fans and place them on a shroud.

Also I run 4.5 ghz on my 3930k because its already overkill fast at that speed and my cheap ass corsair h80 can cool it all day long. So if you can't cool the 60 x on a real loop maybe downclocking to 4.5 lot below might be in your interest.

I'm just confused at thinkin a 2700k would be different than a 3960x in cooling when its your loop that is loud either way. Correct your loop and fans and overclock and then I bet you will love your processor @ any speed.

And lastly if ypu want to pm me, I will trade you my 3930k and a 2500k for your 60x.

Just clock it down to 4.7-4.8Ghz and you should be able to drop the voltage quite a bit and with that the power draw and heat will be considerably less. Most SB-E chips take a lot of voltage to run 5Ghz stable so I don't know what you have yours set at but it's no doubt 1.55v+.
