3930k Overclock Problem!

Okay so I just got done doing my new build. It seems none of the parts were DOA which was great news. I'm typing from all the way over here in Germany and I hate waiting for stuff to come in. As soon as I got it up and running I started working on the CPU OC. I'll compile a quick list of what I'm using and what I have done so far.

Case: Thermaltake Level 10GT
Mobo: Asus P9X79 Pro
CPU: i7 3930k
Cooling: Thermaltake Water 2.0 Extreme (I know Thermaltake's rep. with water but, I decided to give them another chance with the 2.0 extreme :rolleyes: )
PSU: Corsair HX1050
RAM: Corsair Dominator Platinum 32gb
GPU: (2) Galaxy GTX 670 2gb in SLI
Os Drive: 120gb Intel 520 Cherryville
OS: Windows 8 Pro

I really took my time with the set up and have a amazingly clean looking build that I am pretty happy with. I have it stable at 4.8ghz (multiplyier oc) and 1.380 Vcore. Although cpuz show right at 1.400v under full load. I'm posting a screen shot to help out but my temps are okayish~. It usually hovers right around 70 C plus or minus 2 under full load. The only thing that I am finding weird is that my water loop temp is only 36C under full load without even maxing out the fans. I have 4 cougar vortex fans in a push pull on the 240mm radiator. Now for the mistake... During the build that stock thermal paste on my water block looked so pretty so I just went ahead and stuck it on like that . I do have a tube of artic silver 5 here that I was intending to use but I'm not sure if its worth removing the water block and re doing it or not.

I guess this isn't bad at the moment but I would just like to optimize everything for 24/7 use. If anyone has an advice on the CPU oc or cooling please go ahead and throw it out there. I am by no means an expert yet. On a side not I also intend to create a second OC profile and attempt a BLCK oc and compare benchmarks and see how far I can get. I haven't started working on that yet though.

I also had a problem with it booting up several times showing 28gb of ram installed... I have 8gb x 4?? So I guess half of a module sometimes didn't initialize?? Anyway I have bumped up the dram voltage to 1.54 and it seems to be posting with all 32gb now. I was surprised I had to do that though as the module are at advertised speed and clocks and it says 1.5 for voltage.

On last slight annoyance. I seem to be having a problem with my SLI. Not that I put any stock into windows experience index but I do run it sometimes anyway. When I was still just running the first GPU for set up it scored 8.0 on both of the graphic options. After installing the 2nd GPU (in the correct pci slot), installing the SLI bridge, and installing the software and enabling SLI. The windows experience index now scores my graphics a 6.9??:confused: It's weird. GPUz shows that both are running at PCI e x16 and SLI is def enabled and everything seems to be functioning in the NVidia control software. Can anyone think of a what might be going on here?

Those temps are fine for that OC with only a self-contained 240. You're not going to get much better changing paste.

What do you think about the ram and the sli? Should I consider an RMA on the ram because the problem could get worse or something? Or can that happen and its not much to worry about?

The sli problem is driving me crazy and I really cant figure it out. :( I'm going to down load 3d mark today and run it both ways and see what it comes up with. I'll post the results!

As far as the RAM, your chip possibly has a weak IMC. Try adjusting your VCCSA to 1.100v. Is that a 4x8 kit or a 8x4 kit? High density modules (8GB) tend to stress the IMC more and you may need to bump up some voltages to get them to run at overclock settings. You never did say what speed the RAM actually is, but don't forget that DDR3-1600 is native to LGA2011 and anything higher is an overclock setting and is not guaranteed to work.

SLI problem? Do some real benchmarks. Run 3Dmark11 and Heaven 3.0. My Samsung 830 scores 5.4 in windows experience index, I don't give a crap. As long as it is working properly don't worry about microsofts arbitrary system rating.

You've got a beast of a system there, don't get bothered by the little things. Also, don't forget that X79 has so much memory bandwidth thanks to quad-channel that even if your sticks wont run past 1600 you could probably drop the timing down a little still and you will never really see a difference in performance.
 
Thanks for all the help LigTasm! I am going to try adjusting the VCCSA and backing the DRAM voltage back down to 1.5v. They are 8GB modules. I actually didn't go for the OC on the RAM. I am running them at 1600. I figured that the while trying to up the frequency I would also have to loosen the timings so I don't think I would be able to gain much in performance.

Also, I guess no problem with the SLI! windows experience index is just terrible!! :D The SLI is actually working even better than expected when running 3Dmark11. I got the following results:

I will actually try to get a few decent pics to post later as well in case anyone is interested! I didn't think there was anyway I was going to get the full push/pull radiator set up to fit in the top of that case but it JUST does. I had to get a little creative with the CPU power connection on the motherboard and stuff but I managed to wedge it in there!
