Hi!
Just got a 3930k (c2 stepping) and an Asus p9x79 pro kit. Testing with 2x8gb ddr-1600

Still in bench testing, but I'm thinking of returning it.

At stock it seems to run fine (need more tests).

OC seems unreasonably bad:

Max stable multi is 41 with these settings:
Code:
strap 100
all cores 41
ram at default
vcore manual 1.35
vccsa manual 1.15
vtt manual 1.131
pll 1.8

lcc medium
cpu current 120%
vccsa llc regular
vccsa current 110%

Even that is iffy as I only tested prime95 for 20min.

Going even 42 multi is almost insta crash with prime95, though it passes IBT standard up 43.

Heat is not an issue, all below 80C.

I also had weird issues with some slots of ram not recognizing or wrong reporting ram, but IIRC only with the 125 strap.

I will test more, but this doesn't bode well.

What do you think?

If it fails stress tests at stock then return it. I maybe one of the few people here who do not return products if they OC bad since technically it the product wasn't rated at that setting.

Basically this. There are.... exceptions, loopholes, whatever. If you bought it from a place that has a no questions asked, satisfaction guarantee, then its a gray area. However if you buy a chip, card, etc that functions perfectly well at the advertised settings then return it because it doesn't do MORE than it advertises, .... yeah, don't be that guy. Its called the silicon lottery, you don't win every time.

He didn't say anything about it failing at stock. He said it ran fine at stock. If his additional tests at stock pan out just fine, he has no reason to return it. Buy a new one and sell the bad one used. Don't be one of those guys.
