So my brother's birthday is coming up and he's been gaming on his laptop for awhile so I decided since he just started college a couple of months ago and has a massive steam collection, its time to build him a real PC so I can't cringe at the thought of him playing the witcher 3 on his 2 year old ASUS ROG laptop. I put together a decent system using spare parts I have but the video card, a 7970 seems to artifact pretty hard. It's already out of warranty so there isn't anything I can do about that.
That said, I'm looking at either a nvidia based 970 or the ati based 390. I don't believe the system will be cpu bottlenecked as it will be using a 3770k which is still decent by todays standards. I've had experience with the 970 before I sold it for a fairly well priced Titan Black(not much of an upgrade) and had no complaints. The thing is, the 390 seems to be in a similar price range and comes with 8GB of video ram. I've never owned a 390 but reading up on it, it seems to be on par with a 970. Anyone who has used one, will the 8GB make a difference in the long run?
