3870X2 & Best Buy

dunno about your best buy but at the one in my area, they typically charge at LEAST 50% more for low-midrange cards all the time. they don't even carry the higher end cards. In my area, I can order a card online from say, Newegg, and pay for overnight shipping and still save money over the same card at bestbuy.

Personally I think the manager at the best buy in my area is an idiot. I can drive an hour to another Bestbuy in a SMALLER town and save money PLUS they have the higher end cards there. Insane.

But I think they may carry it if your best buy also carries other high end cards.

This is common practice at these B&M stores.Whenever I am there and around the video card section,if I see people looking at them I tell them about two things,NCIX and saving money, and it always gets thier attention. :)

I was able to get a BFG 8800gt at Best Buy back in November when they came out. They were cheaper there then on-line, and in stock. Other then that, I agree. Where else can you buy a 7300gs for over $100? It's usually not the best place for video cards.

I agree. I too purchased the BFG 8800GT from BB in November. I have until Jan 31 to return it. I would consider returning it for the 3870X2 should they have it in stock at launch.

Got my 8800gt bfg from best buy for $259, way cheaper than online back in early january, and it was pretty nice...

They should have them right at MSRP, atleast the 2900XTs were and the 38xx series have been at that as well. Probably only be able to get it online, although if they have it on the website, they can order it in the store for you so you can use coupons.

At launch, B&M stores like BestBuy will have better prices. Problem is, it is the same price a year later. So, there is a window when etailers do the gouge that BestBUy is cheaper.

From my perspective, Best Buy charges the MSRP price, even if it is 5 years old. So at launch, the price will be fine, but a year down the road it will be way overpriced.

that depends on your individual best buy. If it's a larger market area, then they'll probably have more stock than a smaller area.

Why get the card from Best Buy?

Only reason I can think of getting a card from Best Buy is if the 3870X2 becomes as scarce and high-priced as the 8800GT was for about two months after launch and BB was the only place to get it.

I hate BB with a passion but my friends and family keep giving me damn BB gift cards. So I gotta use em and I can imagine people here are in the same boat.

Because they put the Visiontek cards on sale for 20-25% off all the time. And then you can use another 12% off coupon on top of it.

The only way I'm getting one is if Best Buy carries them because I had really good luck with an x850xt I bought from there and their return policy.
